Why does my drinking water from the auto water dispenser smell??

In some instances when the cool water and/or ice maker is not used for some time, mold can accumulate in the tubing between the water intake and the ice maker. Once this happens, it is very difficult to eliminate. One method is to disconnect the tubing from both ends and block one end off. Then fill the tubing with bleach or half bleach and half water and let stand for just a few minutes. Then drain the bleach from the tubing and flush the tubing thoroughly. Be sure to run adequate water through the system to completely eliminate the residual odor/taste of the bleach before reconnecting.

Can drinking water with lemon prevent kidney stones? Also, I have been told not to drink city water. What is the best water to drink?

One-half cup of lemon juice concentrate added to drinking water over the course of the day is a preventive therapy for calcium oxalate stone formation.
As for city water, it is safe to drink but the concern is with water softened using a sodium ion exchange. Softened water should not be used for cooking, drinking, or for ice dispensers.

We have a Kenmore 106-5802 refrigerator. The water coming from the dispenser has scum flakes floating in it. Our tap water is perfectly clear. I have replaced the filter but still have the same problem....

Did this unit sit unused for a long period? If so there might be some bacteria that developed in there.

And the only way to clean it out that is not costly is with bleach. You will need either a large eye dropper or serenge. Disconnect the supply water line (in rear) and then get as much of the water out of the refrigerator line as you can easily do. Mix the bleach 50/50 with water and get as much of that mixture into the water line as you can. Then hook it back up to the water line again and cycle about a quart of water through your dispenser. Then repeat the 50/50 mixture routine again and then a third time. Let the unit sit overnight and then flush at least a gallon of water through the dispenser (also dump all ice). If you still see any scum in the water after that do it with a cider vinegar flush (but you don't have to dilute). do it exactly the same way as the bleach routine (3 times and then let sit overnight)

Oh also change filter after each off the flushes REGARDLESS of when last changed.

Water dispenser is not working

Does it make ice? If it makes Ice, then you have water to unit. If No Ice and No Water, check water supply. Otherwise, you could have a bad water valve. Remove valve and the line coming off of valve to water reservoir try to dispense water and if valve is good you should have water coming from valve. (have a bucket or bowl handy to catch water).

G.E. Arctica Profile Frig produces bad drinking water

The bleach idea sounds the best. How did you get the bleach into the system? It would have to be under pressure from the water inlet to the connection on the refrig, running the water dispenser for several minutes until you could smell the bleach from the dispensed water, plus the icemaker would need to be cycled, and then left for at least 15 minutes to an hour, then flushed with clear water. (again, several, as in about 10, minutes for this step) (icemaker line also needs to be flushed with clear water) Best to be done with the filter bypass plug in place, then when done, a new filter. It is not really possible to replace all the water lines, as the one inside the freezer door cannot be replaced without replacing the entire door.

In my GE Performance refrigerator side-by-side Ice is being made, but no water is dispensing. The GE Smartfilter is atleast 5 yrs old (I never used/never changed) because we always bought water from...

The water that goes to the door actually is routed through the hinge on the freezer door. Take a look and see if you can't find where the tube comes out and goes into the water dispenser. I bet it has come loose and is rerouting the water down the side of the fridge and onto the floor; hence the puddle.

Also, just because you don't drink the water doesn't mean you don't drink the water! If you use ice from the ice dispenser then you ARE drinking the water. The water that feeds the ice trays comes through the filter, so you might consider changing it every 6 months rather you use the water dispenser or not.

Hope this helps, I have one too and its causing a different set of problems...

Filtered water

what kind of supply line is going to the dispenser,, if you have well water you might want to think about even another filter in the line before the frige, change the supply line to copper if it is copper change it to another copper line,,, there is no reason for it to only happen to the ice maker,, what about the ice bucket and ice tray:{where the water fills to make the ice} try cleaning these also

Water dispencer

Hi. This is normal and there is nothing wrong with your refrigerator. Whenever you replace the water filter on any refrigerator, you must run a couple gallons of water thru the water dispenser until all the air from the new water filter is out. Use a large container to do this. The water will not stop when you pull a cup away because the water valves used on refrigerators are so weak it will not close until it has pressure on both sides of it. If you don't get the air out, the air from your new water filter can go to the ice maker and stop ice production. So flush the air out of your new water filter. The water you are drinking from your drink dispenser may not be healthy. It may contain a small plastic floating substance. This is part of the plastic that the water tank is made of. The chemicals in the water do this. You will have this problem even with a new water filter because the water tank is after the water filter. You have to replace the Water Tank. The water tank is located in the refrigerator section on the bottom back wall. I sell low cost new designed Water Tanks on Ebay as username: themackshack. Good Luck, Mack
