SOURCE: Dryer works but will not heat up, can I replace

To answer your question, "yes", replacing a heating element is a simple repair that you should be able to perform yourself. However, the problem may/may not be the heating element. There are several things that can cause a dryer no heat problem.

If the dryer runs, but does not heat, the first thing you need to check is the wall receptacle for the proper input voltage. A reading across the two hot leads (left and right slots) should read 220-240 VAC. If this reading is incorrect, check your breaker panel. Some homes have the dryer circuit on two breakers, vice one single 220 breaker. If the voltage at the receptacle is good, unplug the dryer and remove the cover on the terminal block in the back of the dryer. Plug the dryer back in and take the same voltage check at terminal block across the RED and BLACK wires. You should see 220-240 VAC if good. If the voltage is bad at the terminal block, but good at the wall receptacle, you have a bad power cord. If the voltage is good at the terminal block, then the problem is internal to the dryer.

NOTE: The reason a dryer will still run if the input voltage is incorrect is because the dryer drive motor only uses 110-120 VAC, while the heating circuits require the full 220 service. So, if you are missing a portion of your input voltage, the dryer may exhibit the symptoms you have.

If your problem is with the dryer heating circuits, the following link explains what to look for and how to troubleshoot:

Pay particular attention to the paragraph that discusses proper ventilation. The number one cause of dryer heat related problems are caused by poorly installed, kinked, or clogged dryer ventilation. Your heating circuits are located on the lower right side of the dryer cabinet under the drum. You will need to remove the lower kick panel under the door to access. The elment is inside the heater box while the Thermal Cut-Out (TCO) and Hi-Limit Thermstat is located on the outside of the heater box to the left of the element. The TCO is located in the rear, while the Hi-Limit Thermostat is located near the heating element terminals. NOTE: Make sure the dryer is unplugged while taking any resistance checks. Make sure you disconnect any terminal wires before measuring to ensure accurate readings. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Kitchenaid dryer model kgys750jq0 wont start

The door switch is located near the dryer door and is activated when the door is closed. If the door switch fails, the dryer won't start at all. Many types of door switch will make an audible click when they are activated. If the door switch makes a clicking sound when activated it is probably not defective. If it doesn't make a click, it can be checked with an ohm meter or continuity checker. The door switch is relatively easy to replace and is usually not very expensive. Here is the switch to order if it is bad.

The thermal fuse helps to prevent a dryer fire by shutting off power to the dryer if it overheats. If the dryer won't start check this fuse first. Test the thermal fuse with an ohm meter or continuity checker. This is the most common part to fail when the dryer won't start. Once the thermal fuse has blown, it has to be replaced. It can not be reset. Here is the fuse to order in case it is bad.

Post back your findings and I will post the repair video for the repair.

Dryer won't start

Check your door switch. You should hear a click when you push and release it. If no click is heard, replace with this part.
If the switch is good, the only other component that will be at fault is the thermal fuse, replace with this part.

When your dryer won't start, it could be a number of problems from a broken door latch or start switch to an exhaust duct blocked by lint. It could even be a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.

The first step in troubleshooting any electrical appliance is to ensure that it is plugged in and receiving power. While dryer plugs do not come loose easily, it can happen.

For more troubleshooting tips, read Dryer won't start for possible causes, signs to look for and things you can do. I hope this helps!

Dryer wont start

If the problem you are having is that your Maytag gas dryer is not starting, these are the parts you will need to check until you find and correct the problem.

You need to make sure that the wall outlet has 120 volts presents in it, in order for the dryer to be able to start. Connect a good working hair dryer in the wall outlet, if the hair dryer works, then you know that the wall outlet is not the problem.

Most gas dryers have one thermal fuse and some have two thermal fuses wired in series with the motor. If any of the thermal fuses are blown that could be one of the reasons of your dryer not starting.

The timer is the distribution center in the dryer, the timer will send the right voltage to each of the individual parts in the dryer. Most common problem with the timer, is burnt contacts.

The motor is in charge of turning the tumbler, turning the blower to circulate hot air inside of the dryer and making sure that the heating element won't come on when the dryer motor is not running. A bad or weak motor could be the reason for your Maytag gas dryer not starting.

The door switch is a safety device use to prevent the dryer motor from starting or running when the door in the dryer is open. Burnt contacts or a broken actuator on the switch could be the reason that the dryer is not starting.

The push to start switch is single pole single throw switch that is use to start the motor. Once the motor starts running the switch is no longer in the motor circuit. A bad push to start switch could be the cause of your dryer not starting.

Burnt terminals or wires on the cord could be the reason for your dryer not starting.

As you can see, if any one of these parts fails the dryer will not start.
