My brother in law was poking buttonsThe other night and the picture on the TV disappeared and only a menu bar on the bottom of the screen was visible. He continued to poke buttons until even that disappeared and there was no picture at all. The TV/Video selection menu has only video 1, video2, dvd, ant 1 and ant2 as available selections. I seem to remember that there used to be a "cable" selection at the top of the menu. Going to the setup screen to "tv/cable" selection, "cable" will not select. The television works with a dvd in the player, but will not receive a signal from the cable box.. I had the cable company send a signal to reset the cable box, so I'm pretty sure that is ok. How can I select "cable" at "tv/cable"? Is there a way to reset all settings to factory default? I have the owneers manual for the TV, but can't find anything in there to help. Anything you can suggest will be greatly appreciated.
I am having the same problem. I get just snow. The screen say ant1

The tuner module is bad and would have to be replaced, the other concern is video 1 and 2 are now becoming snowy, at this point I would suggest replacing the tv set because there are two separate issues and the cost to repair in my view would not be cost effective, cheaper in the long run to buy new tv.
Ok you must be using a a/v cable at your house? And the hdmi cable at your brother in laws? If this is the problem its not the xbox hdmi cable. It doesnt matter all hdmi cables work the same. Its your settings. You need to hold you power button down and it should come on and beep twice then release it and a settings menu should pop up if it doesnt hold the power button down until it comes on and shuts off then hold the power button down again until it beeps twice. Hope this helps.
sounds very much like cold solder joints
or small cracks around transformer pins and transistors on heat sinks
if you used too much windex on screen it could of disabled the remote sensor
needs some thorough checks
I called my Brother in Law whom is an Electrician. He basically told me the same answers that your experts have told others. We're all pretty sure it's the cord, just haven't decided if it's worth it to spend 60 bucks on a new cord.
You have CC (closed captioning) turned on and it is set to text mode.....Go to the menu on the remote use the right arrow and hilight "C.CAPT",use the down arrow to highlight "C.CAPT",use the right arrow and highlight "off" then exit button on remote.
Try the reset on the remote. Press this key twice to restore factory settings. The TV will automatically start Channel Search and clear all customized settings. These features will automatically reset:
