Hi, my freezer temperature led started blinking earlier today, when I got back tonight the whole thing had defrosted. I looked on this website and a blog mentioned the same problem and suggested turning it off for a while and then switching it back on. Although NOW the fridge AND freezer wont go below the default temperatures of 15 and 16 degrees.

It takes approx. 24 hours for a freezer to reach optimal temperature and to stabilize, only because in a 24 hour period the machine will shut off about three times for it's defrost cycle, but like you listed, freezing temperature will be reached in about 6 hours.
The issue with the freezer working but the fridge is not is usually the result of a defrost problem. The first thing to check in this case is the freezer area. Look at the back panel inside the freezer. If you notice frost covering the back panel, you have defrost problem. One of the things that happens during this defrost problem is Air cannot circulate from the freezer(where the cold happens basically) to the fresh food section. The coils inside the freezer are the only part inside the whole refrigerator that "get cold". They need to stay free from excess frost build up so that air can pass through the coils and reach the fridge section of your machine.
this is a common fault, you need to replace the defrost heater and thermal cut-out in the fridge section behind the salad buckets, a temporary fix for a few weeks is to switch the whole thing off at the wall and leave the fridge and freezer doors open for at least 24hrs to allow the frozen up evaporator to defrost.
the defrost system has failed. to get it working temporarily, take the back panel off inside the freezer. melt ice off with a hairdryer. after that, fault can be in several areas - defrost heater, thermal fuse or the main pcb
What happens is the defrost is controlled electronically from a circuit board, when this goes bad, the freezer quits defrosting, and freezes the fans that circulate air through the fridge side of things.
To check this, unplug the entire fridge, leave the freezer open, wait for it to defrost a bit, if this causes the fridge to start cooling again when you plug it back in, then its the defrost. You should also see ice crystals on the back of the freezer just under the icemaker.
