Hi Duffy1533,

Thanks for the posting in FIXYA.

Function of the top cover is probably used to remove jam paper & cleaning of the dust internally.

Could you tell me the exact model and make of the printer.

So I can assist you accordingly.

Regards
ELLIN

TROUBLESHOOTING; TWITTER,When I try to RT (Copy/paste) the text shows up, but no picture! HELP

I am not a user of Twitter and most social networking sites but have a high level of knowledge about internet functions. In most cases when it comes to copy/paste function images a lot of the time are not allowed to be pasted as part of text since they are not text. Sometimes when you copy text and image together the copy function strips everything down to text which in the case of an image is not possible. You might see sometimes once you paste that the file name is there but not the image itself and most other times you only get the text. The image in the text has a place holder but that place holder is not copied. As for twitter I would assume that you might have to attach the image file using their file attachment function after you paste the text.

Hp photosmart c4680

The HP C4680 is a powerful all-in-one printer that combines an easy interface and connection process with powerful printing capability.
With a small time investment and minimal effort, even the least tech-savvy home user among us can have their HP C4680 up and running in no time, and take full advantage of all of its printing power.

Connect the AC adapter from the AC terminal on the upper right-hand side of the back panel of the printer to an electrical outlet or surge protector.
Power on the printer using the power button on the front panel of the printer and specify language and country preferences using the prompt on the main display of the printer.

Remove the pink tape from the print heads on the provided ink cartridges.
The tape should come off easily with gentle pressure.

Install the cartridges by opening the main door on the front of the printer and placing the cartridges into the cartridge cradles.
The HP logo should be facing up. Push the cartridge into the cradle until it clicks into place.

Attach the USB cable from the printer's USB port to a USB port on your computer and power on the printer.
Install the setup CD that came with the printer into your computer's CD-ROM drive and follow the steps for installing the printer software on your computer.
Your HP C4680 is now set up and ready to use.

After having used un original cartridges for a month the printer is now telling me incorrect cartridges and willl not work.

That's terrible, and probably relates to having reverted a printer BIOS or driver; or, the printer company reasserted its ability to have proprietary cartridges in court (and possibly won,) then changed their drivers to be picky accordingly. This somehow got filed under Microsoft Vista rather than the printer itself though; was that the window title of the notice? I think it's most relevant to the printer model, and the exchange cartridge vendor's work and representations. Talk to the vendor.

INK CARTRIGED CANOT BE RECOGNIZE,WHAT DO I DO???PLS HELP

Remove the cartridge, you will notice some contacts beside of it, see if they are clean, same contacts are in the printer too where the cartridge fits, check if they are clean too if not then
turn off the printer and clean them both using a soft paper with very little glass cleaning solution.
Wait 2 minutes and then put back the cartridge, start the printer and see if the problem still exists,
If the problem still exists try a new cartridge, if STILL same sh..t your printer needs service.

My canon MP 145 printer displayed E5. How can I solve my problem?

E5 means your cartridge error. May I know are you using original ink cartridge or yours has been modified before?
I assume you to refill your ink cartridge before because E5 error won't appear after replacing new cartridge.
So, you need to take out both of your ink cartridge and then use a clean cloth to wipe them. After that, slowly put in back into the printer. If the error is still there after wiping it, try to do it till the error is gone.
I had tested this way with my own printer and it works again without needed to buy a new ink cartridge.
All the best and good luck =)

Im trying to print a picture in color. I click print and such and it will only print in black and white. I have a full ink cartridge, i have cleaned the dust off off the circuit board for the ink...

It can be that your printer is set to print in grayscale mode. To check this (depending on the OS) follow these simple steps.
If you have Windows XP.
go to the Printers and Faxes under Control Panel. locate your printer and right click it, then choose Printing Preferences. now depending on your printer, you should be able to find and uncheck the option to print in grayscale.
If you have Windows 7.
Go to the Devices and Printers and follow the rest of the instructions.
Hope this resolves your concern. Good luck.

I need to replace the ink cartridge but do not know how..lost my manual

You have not listed the model of printer, however in most standard inkjet printers, once you open the lid of the printer, the print head carriage automatically moves into view and you can just pull out the color that needs to be replaced and put the new cartridge. As always, read the directions that come with the new ink cartridge, incase there is any packing material that needs to be removed from the new cartridge before installation.

The printer cannot recognize the ink

What should I do if the printer will not recognize the cartridge after refilling?
  • Turn on the printer and remove both cartridges
  • Place both cartridges in front of you so that you can see the contact foil, with the nozzles facing downwards
  • With adhesive tape, cover the FOUR upper contact points on the far left contact column of both cartridges
  • Reinsert the two cartridges and close the cover
  • Open the cover again after 2 or 3 seconds
  • Wait until the printer gives you the cartridge carriage (If there seems to be a problem with either of the cartridges, ignore it)
  • Open the cover and remove the two cartridges
  • Place both cartridges in front of you so that you can see the contact foil, with the nozzles facing downwards
  • Remove the adhesive tape
  • Clean the contacts, reinsert the cartridges and close the cover.
  • Most imp.
If you refill your cartridges more then 3 times, then it is expired and that's why it is not displayed in your printer. For this, you have to go for ma new cartridge.
    or some these steps
  • Try below steps.May be it will helpful.

    1. I used a Q-tip with Isopropyl Alcohol and cleaned the gold contacts on both the cartridge and the mating contacts in the printer.

    2. Then from the Setup Menu, I found a menu called Tools. From there I ran "Align Print Cartridges".

    3. From the same menu I also ran "Clean Print Cartridges"
    4. I then ran a few test prints by going into the Setup Menu and then choosing "Print Report" and then selecting "Self-Test Report". It prints grid patterns in black & white as well as magenta, yellow and blue. The black grid pattern had some missing lines until I printed this report a few times.

    5. I made a few photocopies and now the printouts no longer have large stripes of missing ink as it did in the earlier steps.

Lemark printer not printing not recognising cartridges

A print reset has to be performed after replacing the cartridge. After replacing the cartridge

1. Turn Printer Off
2. Disconnect the power cord and LAN cable
3. Wait 5 minutes
4. Put the cables back in and start the printer back up.

Printer should be back up and running!!!

good luck!

Refill cartridge

Make sure that youre not using the same printer drivers that you were when you were using XP. Uninstall them. Go to Dell.com and get the Vista drivers for your printer. Intermittent problems have been reported with most of their printers if the drivers haven't been replaced.
