I cannot turn the subtitles off in my TV, the problem is that I do not have it's original remote control, so I am using a universal type one.
So how can I use that remote to turn subtitles off, or what other optins I have, when I go to MENU, there are not options for subtitles.
every one of the subtitles is coming on, i have a philips magnavox remote my wife hit meun buttons tv will not turn off . when i unplug it it turns off, but when i plug it in then it goes back to the cc's
Hmm... have you tried ontop of the remote where it has "tv" vcr" sat" etc...hit tv first then try the menu?and do you have satelite by any chance? because something similar happened to me when i had my old tv put upstairs and hooked up, the remote for it did not work so i had a universal and the tv was on "video 1" input the whole time and the universal remote didn not convert it back to tv so what i had to do was hook up the reciever to the "video 1" port instead of the "tv" input in the back...i hope you get it cause i know it can be a pain in the A$$

The Samsung monitor wouldn't need use of a remote.... you can turn it on from unit and control speaker volume from the PC. I would tape over the receiver section on the monitor so the TV remote cannot control it!
Not all Philips TVs use the same remote codes.
It is very unlikely that the TV remote receiver is the problem (trust me).
Is this the original remote for that set?
If not, try program it as a universal with the other Philips codes or get a universal remote and do the same.
Here is the website for remote codes:
I just bought a 32" dynex lcd and saw that i couldn't program my two $5 ge remotes to work it. From reading in this forum and others I'm not the only one with the problem, I thought I was stuck with only the dynex remote. But the dynex website tells you how to get universal remotes to work,
It tells you to try the codes for Orion, Emerson, Memorex, Sansui, Sylvania, Zenith. The second orion code worked for me. both my ge remotes look and work the same but one uses a four digit code and the other uses a three digit code. I used 0135 on one and 135 on the other. There is a good chance that if you try the codes for the brands dynex lists you will find one that works. The 0135 or 135 might work for most dynex tv's.
If you have a ge remote and haven't programmed it for volume punch through you might try it. It allows the tv volume to be controlled using the ge remote even when it's set to something other than tv.
