First check and see what is happening inside. Take something small and stick n the lock mech, which is the hold that a small part of you top to the player sticks in to tell the unit that it is closed. See if the lense light up and moves up and down and also see if it moves forward a bit and back to start position. If player does not do any of this then with fingers move lense down line abit to see if anything is obstruting path. You can move all the way down then place DVD in and try again

Horizontal dark line across screen shadowing text or other complex display data - giving appearance of 3D grooves or just dark lines on light background - temp fix (few minutes) by banging monitor or jiggling the video cable (thats what threw me for a while)
Removed tube base board and ran over disc capacitors and other solder joints whether they looked dry or not. No re-occurence in 2 weeks of daily use. Seems to have fixed it. (Be prepared for a lot of metalwork and screw removal when opening one of these up - I still havn't figured out how to get the PSU/main board out of one !)

Sent camera to Kodak whch fixed it and sent it back weeks ago. A solution almost a month after the inquiry is too late to be helpful.
