I've had this washer in storage for about four years. It used to work fine but now I can only get it to spin when it is empty. If I have even a small load it will start to spin and then immediately stop. It agitates fine, drains fine, fills fine, just the spinning issue. Any idea what I need to do to repair it?

Re: GE Profile top load washer
That is one of the worst placed for any appliance..storage when not used regularly corrison set in parts tend to stick and rust forms when it usually doesn't suspect break/clutch is binding from sort of build up may try letting it go through complete cycle without a load and normal fill ..a long enough high speed spin may free up and remove some of the buildup simply by friction if that fails may need to call service

hello mam for two years you have not used the washer so the bearings may worned out so lubricate the bearings and check the belt should not have any cracks on it,and after lubricating run the machine without loading clothes the observe the noise if seems to be same then change the bearing to change the bearing call the engineer.
Hello, your problem is going to be with the lids switch, in this machine it is going to be a magnetic contact. You can confirm this my pulling the front panel off and accessing the wiring to the lids switch, If you have electrical knowledge bypass the lid switch using a wire nut and run the machine. If all is ok make sure you replace the lid switch since it is there for a reason. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Good Luck!!! Thanks for using Fix-ya. bad dogs pull off center cap remove bolt carefully lift off dogs are two pieces that catch to agitate they are minimal cost and are easy to replace they wear out especially with heavy loads!!!Best of Luck to You!!
Many GE®/Hotpoint® washers use a clutch and an automatic shift lever. This assembly is quite complicated. If there's a problem with it, you probably should contact a qualified appliance repair technician.
Many washing machines have multiple-speed drive motors. Though it's uncommon, the drive motor may work fine on one speed but not on another. If the drive motor has failed on one speed, you need to replace the entire motor.
