Question about Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera
My G9 has stopped working leaving the lens extended. I've tried re charging the battery and with and without the memory card. the camera has not been dropped is there a factory reset procedure that I should follow or is it as I guess taking it back to Canon - I've had the camera since February 08 and amazed at the results I've had with it - so any help would be very welcomed,
Your camera probably got the loose screw syndrome that these G7 and G9 models many times get. It needs to be repair and should be done professionally, mostly it's a board inside that has to be replaced. The correction to the screws inside of the camera should also be done, it costs $89 for everything at this site: www.camerasandparts.com They're excellent for fixing this problem since they are familiar with it and they include the correction automatically so the screws won't come loose again. Plus if it's something else causing the no power syndrome, it's still the same price with them. The work there is excellent and a plus is they only work on Canons, they are very familiar with this G9 problem.

The DC/DC board or main board may short.
the DC/DC board is not cheap if you can find one.

I also have the same problem!! drives me insane that this should happen!! Does anyone have any solutions?????/

hopefully... with some luck you all will see this?
i had the same problem, and was so- scared that id have to buy a new camera, then, started cursing CANON!
but, luckily i was still under warranty...
(btw, i was also nervous about the whole CANON warranty bc of all the "horror" stories i read; turns out that they re AWESOME! if i was bill gates, id give them all christmas bonuses... ha, or at least tech #184 ;)
anyways, took then 7 days, easy-peasy...
so, the "PROBLEM" is called:
"PCB ASSY DC/DC"
now- i know this doesnt help you fix it at home, or where ever you are in the world; but- hopefully, it gives you some rest of heart knowing what problem is, and more importantly called...

I sent my dead G9, still under warranty, insured, to Canon on Nov. 21. I got it back on Dec. 3, with a note that they had replaced the cameras guts. Works like a charm now. Outside of warranty, I'd suggest contacting Canon.
