Hi, I just purchased a Xerox Work Centre 4118 for my office. I have Windows 7 Professional and am unable to Print via wireless. I receive a message that the Printer is offline. Would you be able to...

http://www.support.xerox.com/support/workcentre-4118/downloads/enus.html

The above links to the drivers page, but unfortunately, I do not see specific Windows 7 drivers for this printer. This means that older XP or the latest drivers from the year 2008 are used in emulation mode, maybe, for Windows 7.

Since this is not a 'new' printer, I gather, it will not guaranteed to work with Windows 7. However, I would try the link above for various drivers which may or may not work on this printer.

The fact that the Printer is shown to be offline, is a bad sign.
I read that the printer in question has the following connectivity:

Connectivity

But, that it doesn't support WiFi.

USB, Parallel, optional 10/100 BaseT Ethernet.

INSTALLING A NETWORK PRINTER
These instructions generally apply to all network printers with built-in network cards (print servers) such as HP Laserjet printers, IBM Infoprint laser printers etc.
This example is for a network HP Laserjet printer.
To install a HP printer (with built-in Jetdirect print server) as a network printer you need to do the following -
1. Open the printer’s menu and enable the Network Card – these print servers use a static IP address therefore, configure the IP address of the network card so it matches the IP range of your network. Eg. If your IP's are 192.168.0.xxx then set the network card to a high number say 100. (This is to prevent a conflict with the router issuing the same IP address to a computer on your network).

Then set the Subnet Mask IP address to 255.255.255.0
If you have a wireless router then check the IP address range that the router issues to the computers on your network and configure the static IP address in the printer’s network configuration accordingly.
2. Install the HP printer driver on your computer/s using the LPT printer port.
3. Connect the printer with a LAN cable to the network hub/router.
4. Click on Printers and Faxes - right click on the HP printer and click on Properties.
5. Click on Ports and click on Add Port.
6. In available ports - click on Standard TCP/IP Port and then Configure port.
7. Tick the IP box and type in the IP address of the HP's printer IP address.
8. Click OK and tick Enable bi-directional support and then OK

Install the HP printer driver on every computer on your network and configure the printer’s TCP/IP port as previously detailed.

Do a test print page to check the printer.
You can now print from any computer on your network.

How i know the IP address assgined to the print server? once this how can I change it?

According to this site http://www.argecy.com/xtnd100s.html it it supports the use of HP's JetAdmin/Web JetAdmin utility which will allow you to configure the IP address as well as other features.

"Features such as full support for HP JetAdmin/Web JetAdmin"

Utility located here:

That same site also has this information about the ExtendView utility which may help you as well.

TROY LAN Administration Tools
  • ExtendView - 32-bit utility allowing most versatility and functionality available in network printing. Ability to view and configure print servers from unlimited number of views and quick and easy Windows IP address assignment are 2 key benefits. Features such as bulk configuration allow configuration changes for multiple print servers with simple steps. Save and restore feature allows a standard configuration to be saved and later recalled to restore same configuration
  • WebView - web based configuration tool allows complete status and configuration changes simply by typing the print server's IP address into a standard web browser
  • NetworkAlert - specialized Windows printer error utility providing proactive notification of printer problems through the use of SNMP traps
  • ExtendNet Connect - serverless (peer-to-peer) printing for Windows 95/98. Excellent tool for small businesses and remote offices
  • ExtendNet Connect NT - performance enhanced port monitor helps to improve the speed of data flow to the printer

We are in need of a print solution and was wondering if yourself or your learned colleagues could assist us. We currently have a site with 5 users set up to our Probuild network and using a MFD....

As long as there is a network using Windows share, every individual computer will have a description and a name,
Also have a matching workgroup name. It is absolute that you can designate the printer to one local computer and have that local computer share that printer to all the 5 same workgroup and I think the number is unlimiter
There are also print sharer devices that can do this they are small, way less expensive than a computer and more portable so not to restrict the location of the printers too. You can centeralize the printers so everyone needs to walk the same distance to get their print job.
Having a shared print Que also means everyone will see the que.

Can not install

Chapter 3 - Configuration
This section will show you how to configure your new D-Link wireless print server using the web-based configuration
utility.
Web-based Configuration Utility
The IP address of your print server will be automatically assigned by your router.
To access the print server’s web-based configuration interface:
Windows® XP users:
Double-click on the My Network Places icon on your desktop. Your print server will be displayed as “DPR-1260:
dlinkps-xxxxxx” (where xxxxxx is the last 6 characters of your print server’s MAC address). If you do not see the print
server or have UPnP enabled, please refer to page 13.
Windows® 2000 users:
You will need to write down the MAC address located on the bottom of the print server (E.G. 00-54-23-45-f5-b6). Open
a web browser and enter the following:
http://dlinkps-XXXXXX
XXXXXX = the last six characters of your MAC address.
Note: Some printer software features may not work
while connected to the print server such as ink level display.

This will prove the print server is working. If you can not access the web interface then it may not be getting an address from the router

Need to install network printer to DLink Router

It has been a few months, so you probably have resolved this -- but just in case someone else is looking to find out the IP address on the internal print server of an HP Laserjet 4000n printer so they can set it up on their network, here are the steps to find the IP address on the HP JetDirect internal print server:

1. Have the Ethernet cable plugged in to the router and the JetDirect 600n card and power it on.
2. Make sure display screen on printer says "Ready".
3. Press the Menu button on the printer until you see Information Menu.
4, Press the Item button on the right (+) side until you see Print Configuration page.
5. Press the Select button and a configuration page should print.

One page is the printer's configuration and the other page is the print server configuration page. If you have a good JetDirect card, and good connection to your router, the IP address of the printer, plus its subnet mask and default gateway should be shown on the EIO configuration page.

If the printer has been manually set with a static IP address, subnet mask and default gateway that will not work on your network, you will see the settings will indicate "Configured by" User Specified.

To clear those settings and allow DHCP setting, perform a cold reset on the JetDirect card, by powering off the printer, holding down the green "Go" button and powering it back on until you see "COLD RESET," let go of the green Go button, wait a couple of minutes, then run another configuration page to see the freshly assigned DHCP address of the print server.

Hope this helps someone.

Dp301p+ psadmin password was forgoten

Problems with your D-Link DP-300U LOST IP If you’re like me, you have a ton of computer **** laying around your house. Today I found an old D-Link DP-300U print server laying around and thought that I could put it to good use. The bad thing about these things is the fact that they do not have a hardware reset button on them, so if you forget the IP or the Password, you’re pretty much hosed… or so I thought. After doing some google searches for how to find a lost IP, I came back empty. The PS Admin program that D-Link publishes for use with this thing couldn’t find it on my network either. After some thinking, I came up with an idea.
If you know anything about networking and how networks work, you should have thought about this too. Get a Wireshark capture running. Unplug the power from the print server and then replug it. It’s going to send out an ARP on the network looking for it’s gateway which should be picked up by Wireshark. It should look like this:
capture.jpg In my case, it came back as 192.168.1.253. After changing the IP on my laptop to fit that subnet, I was able to log into it via it’s web interface (there was no password on it thank God!) and put it back to factory settings. Voila! What once was a brick is now a working print server!

I Copied it!
