I have the same problem with my GE Profile Refrigerator. The electricity in the refrigerator is pulsing and the compressor is not running. Also there is a light on the control panel display the is flashing "hrs". What does this mean?

  • dlcohen Dec 25, 2008

I also have the same problem currently. The HRS is flashing inside on the temperature panel and the lights flashing on the water dispenser. Did anyone actually get this issue resolved (and yes, a sub 4-year old appliance)?

  • Anonymous Jan 22, 2009

me too have the same problem today! flashing water green light at the front and flashing HRS inside the fridge.

Rang the warranty insurance company this morning, promise that the repairer will ring me within 48hrs. Still waiting...

My side-by-side is under 4 years old!

It sounds like you have a defrost problem. This will either be the defrost heaters the defrost thermostat or defrost timer. In order to check the heater if you are competent enough you can check that you have resistance across the heater. Alternatively you can rotate the timer (normally in the fridge section abov the thermostat control) around to a defrost cycle (you will normally hear a click) and check to see if the defrost heater kicks in. Please note the cabinet has to be cold in order for the heaters to work. The defrost sensor should also have zero resistance across the terminals when the coil is cold. Please do no attempt the above unless you are practically skilled. A good fridge guy should be able to quickly identify the problem and remedy it. Defrost heaters are generally the first part to fail. Hope this is of some help.

SOURCE: GE Profile - model PDS22 - constant clicking noise

Yeah, same problem. There are two capacitors that seem to be prone to going out. You can replace the main board, or (if you can solder) replace the two capacitors with slightly larger ones (radio shack mdl number 272-1030 works) just remember to bend them away from the heat sink if you go that route.

GE bottom freezer began making a clicking noise, will not run

The clicking could be the start relay. If the start relay is bad, the compressor will not start and you will hear a clicking noise in 2-5 minute intervals. The clicking noise is the overload cutting the compressor off when it overheats from trying to start with a bad start relay. To find out if this is bad first unplug the refrigerator. Remove the lower cover from your refrigerator. Then take the cover off that is on the side of the compressor, you will see wires going to this. Now you should be able to see the start relay plugged on to the side of the compressor and unplug it. Now the best way to tell if it’s bad is to shake it. If it rattles, it’s bad and needs to be replaced. If not, most of the time it’s ok. But rather than saying the compressors bad, you might want to replace it anyways because it don’t cost much in most cases (less than $25). If you replace it and it doesn’t work then the compressor is bad and you’ll need you call a repairman. (Note that compressors are very costly and are normally not worth fixing). You can also enter your model # at www.appliancehelponline.com for diagrams and illustrations.

Clicking noise coming from my fridge, why?

Depending on model number and location of noise I believe with any refrigerator that clicking will come from compressor overload when the compressor tries to start. Certain GE Models that fall into the category of Profile/Artica have motherboards that make the same clicking sounds when they go bad. If coming from compressor then it tells me that the compressor is trying to start. If so and the clicking continues the compressor could be damaged. If you need someone to assist you in repair I will gladly assist you. Sea Breeze

Making a clicking noise and not cooling

This could be a relay on the control board or the compressor is short cycling or both. You can use my assistance to help you resolve this or call a technician, this depends on you. I am very familiar with the Artica/Profile and know that if you can follow instructions and use a test meter we can get this fixed. I would like your complete model number so I can refer to the exact model you have. I will leave you contact information and a service manual and a web page to use with the diagnostics. This problem will not get better, Sea Breeze

Ge profile artica not cooling

  • Is the thermostat knob turned to the proper setting? If not, reset it.

  • Next, see if the compressor motor is running

The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help.

If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these:

    • The compressor

    • The Thermostat

    • The overload, relay, or capacitor

    • The defrost timer

    • The condenser fan motor

Temperature Display, Clicking Intermittent, Lost all Cooling

unplug the fridge and turn it around so you can see the compressor, does it have a capacitor located on the compressor (a round cylinder with wires comming out of it going to the compressor) it sounds like that could be your problem. They are pretty easy to change just a couple of wiers, just take note of where they go when you take it out. Make sure its unplugged from the wall before you do anything!
