Digital Camera Troubles

posted by Walter on May 23, 2006

I have a Vivitar Vivicam 5385 and after carrying it around with me all day, it suddenly stopped working. Whenever I try to turn it on it says "LENS ERROR" on the display and turns back off. I was wondering if there is anyway I can fix this (cheaply or without money) because I spent about $150 on it about 6 months ago and I don't have the money to buy a new one for a very long time. There doesn't appear to be any physical damage to the camera, so I'm clueless as to why it happened.

Thanks for the help!!!!

Walter :P

Walter, it's look like a problem with the servo motor. The lens unit can become damaged if it's opened while it was in your pocket, or in its case. The power botton was pressed without your knowledge and the lens attempts to extend, but was jammed and the servo motor or its transmition were damaged. This problem is correctable and should be done by an experienced technician.
Of course, you should ask first for a repair cost quotation.
Good luck !

urse, you should ask for a repair cost quatation

Not really a solution-- See what "bmw" commented on
ie: the repair economics and the eBay solution (spares/repairs) I live in the u.k. and there is a eBay store supported by Vivitar (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/LMB-Direct_Digital-Cameras_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ6660219QQftidZ2QQsclZ8QQtZkm )the prices seem attractive. there may be something like this in the States.
