Whirlpool refrigerator side by side door seal very hot

Fans working, coils cleaned, not frosted up, seems to work well, but seems that middle transom between doors is too hot too often, but not constant. have to have fridge and freezer temps set to high just to maintain. Is 10+ yrs old.

I gave the condenser fan a push and it starting turning and moving air. Like it had current but hadn't started turning and needed a push start. Noticed the drip pan has a lot in it too, which I emptied a week or two ago when I cleaned the coils.

wow thanks! Should I use oil or like a silicon spray or does it matter? So it's possible I don't need a new fan? That would be so great. How do I know? Any more advice very welcomed so I can rate as Fixedit!!!
    Thanks again!

I unplugged and got some spray on the shaft moving it a bit. When plugged back in the fan started immediately.
For future so I know if it's still right...does this fan run all the time or does it cycle so it should be off sometimes?
Thanks Thanks Thanks very much my Friend!! A guru!!!

When you said fans working....does it include the condenser fan? or it may have two evaporator fans..

if condenser fan is working, then it is just normal. if the compressor is running, that part would really heat up. and if it is too hot, then the condenser fan could probably not running.

its not constant because the compressor cuts off when ever the thermostat cuts off.

there is your problem,. when you push the fan, that condenser fan is sticking already. it is supposed not to be pushed. it is supposed to run by itself.

you may need a lubricant to spray on the shaft to loosen it a bit.

please dont forget to rate the solution.

yes you dont need a new fan. use WD 40 or any oil lubricant.
once you plug it in, the condenser fan should run alone and does not need any push.

dont forget to put back the cover at the back. the cmpressor needs it.

you have plenty of water because the fan is not running and evaporating the water.

    i hope i got a fixya this time...lol

    tnx, drcool

it cycles the same time as the compressor.

    tnx for the rating,

Old whirlpool freezer door left slightly ajar.light on inside.door won't seal. Rubber on door warm.

FRIDGE COILS or door walls SEEM VERY HOT:

The condenser coils do get hot. They can even be to hot to comfortably touch and this is normal.

The refrigerator should not run constantly but shut off with each defrost cycle.

Running constantly and never cycling off can indicate a cooling problem.

One thing to try is to wait till it has been running a few minutes then open the door and turn your cycling thermostat towards the off position. It should cycle off before getting to the off position on the dial.

If it does not cycle off then it's not getting cold enough to satisfy the thermostat. This is likely the reason the refrigerator runs all the time.

A thermometer in a glass of water can be used to check the temperatures in the refrigerator section.

You can check that all fans are running.

the reason the outer side of the door seal area is getting hot is the compressor is over heating, probably the condenser fan motor to your compressor is bad.
It should be a little warm but not hot. they don't use heaters anymore ( some older models still use heaters) around the doors, instead they use the condenser coils to remove condensation and moister, you might want to check your condenser coils on the bottom or back of fridge to see if they need cleaning
If the condenser coils/condenser fan are all plugged up they need cleaning and/or the condenser may fail or has failed..

The ones that use an electric heater will have an "energy saver" switch that will turn it off.: God is the reason I give you free advice so God is good!

Will the very warm to touch problem with middle bar that doors close against on Whirlpool side by side also happen if you run it with the ice chute cover off overnight?

Freezer and referigerator only cool, no cold

Sounds like the freon is low. Needs a repair man with a tester to check the pressure. when he is there check for small leaks in the lines as well. It's tryng to work but no pressure to work wityh.

Freezer meltdown. coil is dirty and I am in the process of cleaning. Compressor is hot to touch. all fans are working

Yes compressors do get hot it's normal. If your coils are dirty and covered with dust it will cause your compressor to run excessively as your unit cannot dissipate and get rid of its heat, also causes your compressor to work very heard, increases pressure as well - you will reduce the life cycle of your compressor this way. Get those condensers cleaned up, if they are at the bottom, you should have a fan next to the compressor, (condenser fan).

If after checking door gaskets, condensers, evaporator fan, and over frost problems / defrost then you might be low on charge and will need to have it checked by a qualified service person.

My freezer is working but fridge has stopped any ideas in what could be wrong. The coils where dirty I have cleaned them..

Does this unit just have one thermostat? is this a frost free unit? does the cooling for the fridge come from the freezer side compartment via internal fans, if so are they working?

well done on cleaning the coils by the way, did you notice the fans down there running and latent heat being dispersed? (FROM COIL)

My whirlpool side-by-side is getting hot on strip between doors but everything seems to be working fine. Is there a solution? What if it becomes extremely hot??

It will not become extremely hot. It is heated by a thing called a mullion heater. It warms the area so it doesn't sweat and mold in the summertime. It is perfectly normal.
