Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Admiral AL46000 2 speed washing machine

My washing machine stops between the "6 minute mark" and the "rinse" cycle. It seems to do this as it switches between speeds.

I then push down on the lid on top and as the lid "pops" back up, the machine starts to work until the end.

Any suggestions as to what part to change?

Thanks.

Hi Most washing machine timers are digital or mechanical. The timer controls most of the operations of the washer: water level, tub filling and emptying, length of cycles, and cycle setting sequences. For this reason, any repairs to the timer should be made by a professional service person. However, there are a couple of checks you can make when you suspect the timer is faulty -- you may be able to install a new timer yourself.

Step 1: Unplug the washer. To access the timer, remove the control knobs and the panel that covers the controls. This may be a front panel, or access may be through a panel at the back of the unit. Carefully examine the wires that connect the timer to the other parts of the washer. If the wires are loose or disconnected, try pushing them into position; they usually fit into their terminals like plugs. Use long-nosed pliers to avoid breaking the wire connections -- never pull a wire by hand.

Step 2: To test the timer, use a VOM set to the RX1 scale. Disconnect the power leads to the timer and clip one probe of the VOM to each lead. The VOM should read zero if the timer is working. Since the timer is a multiple switch, turn it through its cycle and test each pair of terminals in turn. The meter should read zero at all of these points. If one or more readings are above zero, the timer is faulty and should be replaced.

Step 3: To replace the timer, unscrew and disconnect the old one. Install a new timer made specifically for the washing machine. If there are many wires on the timer, have a helper hold the new timer next to the old one as you work. Disconnect the old wires one at a time, connecting each corresponding new wire as you work, to make sure the connections are properly made. Or, draw a diagram showing the connections before removing the old timer. After all the wires are connected, check the connections again for correctness and screw the timer assembly into place.

Water level on rinse is to low, on wash cycle the water level is good, I think maybe three quarts of water come in for the rinse cycle, please help. brand new admiral model # ATW4475XQ

this machine has a water level switch for the wash cycle and a switch for the rinse ccycle. remove control panel and take a small screwdriver and rotate the lever on the rinse cycle switch 1 click. (the rinse cycle switch is the one that does not have the knob on it. Unplug the machine before this is done. You will now have a full tub of water for the rinse cycle.

My washer stops in the rinse cycle and sometimes in the begining of the wash cycle again

Not exactly easy to determine. Must check a few things first. 1) Does the timer stop at exactly the same places everytime when it stops? Make a mark at the place it stops and restart the program a few times. When it does stop, note if it is always at those marked positions. If so, the timer needs to be replaced. If the stopping positions on the timer are in the middle of washing and especially the spin, then the motor is defective.(the internal overload/overtemp) protection is activated,.

Machine will not spin or drain water.

I have a problem with my MW512AU. Sometimes it drains after wash cycle, but sometimes it sticks when it goes to spin, doesn't get up to speed, water comes on for about 10 seconds and shuts off, and it tries to spin again. If I hit the wash progress switch it goes directly to final spin and works ok. I then have to run a 2nd wash cycle to rinse the clothes. I also noticed a buzzing sound when I turn on the power point, which lasts about 3 seconds before stopping. It will come back on every 3-4 minutes for 30 seconds. This is with the machine power switch off. It powers on normally.

From description it looks more like you have to replace the lid switch, if you have to push it down, then the contact inside is broken.

You find replacements here, just insert the model number.

Sounds like your solinoid valve needs replacing. It cuts the water off when it has reached the right level.
