There is black soot all thru my oven and surrounding cupboards in my kitchen.I do not use the self cleaning feature,is this normal for this type of stove?

This is NOT good. Soot comes from something burning, and that's definitely not good. Do you smell smoke or something burning? Is the stove electric or gas? I would have someone pull the stove away from the wall and check to see what is burning. It could be wires, but something is very wrong. Please don't use the stove until you have it checked out, you could start a fire. Really, please have this checked out ASAP!

Gas flame on all gas appliance should burn clear blue.
Yellow flame means you need to clean the burners.
This applies to stoves, oven, furnaces, water heaters

The gas stove fire burns with black soot and is only 1 month old

Gas should not burn with soot, if it does it is dangerous as poisonus fumes will be produced as the air/fuel mix is wrong.
Call a qualified gas engineer to check out the installation and make it safe.

Whirlpool model SF385PEEQ0 Gas stove was on Natural gas we have propane is there an adj or part needed as burns yellow flame!

You need to adapt your range for the propane gas. You need to change the orifices, propane needs a larger opening than natural gas. If you contact your propane company they can help you and some will even do it as a free service (or used to).

Are you using natural gas or propane (LP)? It sounds like you may need to change the orifice size on the gas lines going to each burner. If you are using LP and have the orifice set for Natural gas, the flames will burn higher and hotter, causing heavy soot. Under each burner, there should be a small nut with a hole in the center at the end of the gas line. The hole for Natural gas has a slightly larger diameter than one for LP. Your stove should have come with extra orifices as part of a conversion kit. Could this be the case? There's also another orifice in the main gas regulator in the back of the stove. Have you checked to see if the orifice for the regulator is set correctly? Does the oven burn hotter than usual with heavy soot, too? If you could please answer these questions first, I can give you better advice. Let me know...
