What printer it is?

The printer or the drum/toner unit may cause the grinding or clicking
    noise.

    1. Please power off the printer and open the front cover.

    2. Remove the drum/toner unit and close the front cover.

    3. Power the printer back on.

If the grinding or clicking noise does not occur when the drum/toner
unit is removed from the printer, then the drum/toner unit is the cause
of the noise. Purchase a brand new drum unit and/or toner cartridge.

Brother strongly recommends that you do not use generic drum units
and/or toner cartridges, or refill their Brother toner cartridge. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set
temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner
formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the
other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may
affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability.
The Brotherlimited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused
by the useof unauthorized third party drum units, toner cartridges or
    toner.

If the grinding or clicking noise still occurs with the drum/toner unit
removed, then this indicates a printer problem.

If the printer is in warranty, call Brother Customer Service at
    1-800-276-7746 for warranty options.

If the printer is out of warranty, contact a Brother Authorized Service

Try to clean the printer it must have dirt or dust on it. if still the problem persist then better call for a technician to help you with or send it back to the place were you bought it.

Does it affect the printing?

.if it does not affect the printing, then i suggest you live with it. printers have so many small plastic parts that sometimes they jump and miss-aligns and every time you would print, it would make this clicking or unusual noise.

if you would bring it to a repair man, i think the cost of the repair is more than the cost of a new printer.

tnx 4 using fixya,

I have HP laserjet 1018 printer and it makes noisy sound when it prints. But it prints fine though. What causes making this noise?

The noise is probably due to the print heads aligning and clicking. To try to make this noise a little quieter, clean and align the print heads.
Good luck!

Clicking noise when printing

Had similar problem. Putting my hands on the front surface of the printer, the click seemed to be felt strongest in front of the pink ink cartridge. I took the cartridge out, looked at the back of it, where there's a little black wheel, and tried turning it. That wheel was stuck (whereas the other colors & the black would turn). Tried printing with the pink cartridge out and no more clicking noise. I guess I'll just replace my pink cartridge. Maybe see if there's a similar problem with one of your cartridges?

Printer makes clicking noise

Make sure the printer is not out if ink. When the light flashes this may be the case. Also check the print queue. If it contains pending print jobs and there is no paper the light will flash. Here is how to check print queue: Click Start > click priters and faxes > double click printer icon and see if there is something ... If you see any print jobs delete them right away. and restart your computer. This should solve your problem.
