My son has a an HP Compaq DC5000SFF and I just purchased a Belkin router so he can have access to the internet (his brother has modem and router in his room). The HP is sayinh that he does not have a wireless chip or card. Where can I purchase one and does it come with instructions? Also, is there anywhere in the HP to try and locate this chip or card? Please help. My son is only 12 and very anxious. Thank you.

If you mean - that yu want to connect WIRELESSLY to the Internet , then yes you need a wireless "card" of some sort -- the easiest is a USB wifi "card" that they have on Ebay for real cheap

I have cable modem can i hook up my belkin wireless router model #f5d8236-4 v3 to it ...my son wants to play his x-box 360 while im on the computer...please help

theres a number of solutions

you son my have a wireless reciever on his xbox(this is either built in or can be purchased) this will allow him to access the router around the house wirelessly allowing you to keep your cable plugged in to your desktop

protip:,make sure that the router channel number is set to 11 or the xbox wont read the wifi signal

you can get an extra long cable to reach between the router and the xbox (standard cat6 cable) id buy that online as its cheaper than in the stores.this will plug into one of the ports at the back allowing him to play while you surf the net

I am getting ready to switch from dial-up to satellite internet service, I have a Compaq Presario SR1730T and need to know what type of wireless router is best or will any wireless router be compatible????

Usually the internet service provider (even satellite) provides a modem/router to access the internet. This being said to purchase a wireless router must mean that you are going to "broadcast" your satellite internet throughout the house so that others in the house can access the internet.

In that case, no it doesn't really matter what kind of wireless router to buy. Just make sure you connect your satellite modem/router (what they send you) into the wireless router correctly. Also, make sure you put a password on that wireless router so that your neighbors or unknown persons do not gain access to your internet/computer.

Thanks.

I am connected but I have no internet access. I

Sounds like it could be a Gateway or DNS issue, is there anywhere you can enter the gateway and DNS addresses in the Belkin Other thing to check is the ADSL modem and the Belkin are not on the same subnet ie. the ADSL modem should not be 192.168.2.X. This is because the Belkin is a router and won't route to addresses in the same subnet

Belkin 54g Router won't connect to internet.

If you can access the configuration page of your belkin router you have to copy the MAC address of your computer to the router. The router has the capability to clone the MAC address. It's because if you have a cable internet connection the MAC address is registered in the server.

Belkin N Wireless Router doesn't connect to Modem

If router is brand new you should have a set up disk. the set up disk will walk you through it or you might log onto Belkin site to see a walk through set up. If you can access internet from modem to router to internet. That means router is functioning properly. To go completely wireless you will need to secure your network and setup your access codes. Definitely use the setup disk to do this. A unsecured wireless network is a nightmare waiting to happen. Good luck
