Philips Rear Projection Model 55PP8620 - convergence problem

Hello,

My 55PP8620 has just lost its colour convergence. I have tried to correct the colours both manually and with the inteligence system. A local TV technician says I may need to replace the convergence system. Are these still available in Australia or can I purchase elsewhere? I opened the back of the TV and found a 5cm square box mounted in the centre of the unit. This is marked 'Sony' and has the words 'screen' and 'focus' plus 6 small tuning knobs. The TV has had previous repairs - is the Sony part standard in this model Philips TV? Thank you for your support.

OOPS! Sorry guys - it's actually a SANYO part - not Sony.

Manufactures sometimes contract with other tv companies to build their tv. Regardless of the internal hardware you still have a philips tv. I beleive this set was made by Hitachi. And what you are looking for is a replacement board. This board is referred to as the small signal module. When contacting a rebuilt board, have the model# and the chassis# available. And contact PTSELECTRONICS.com or Andrews Electronics.com. The board you seek is in the rear lefthand side on the floor of the TV. You will see a pair of tall aluminum fins. Theses are the heatsinks for the convergence ICs. I would definitely replace this small signal module, as repair on the local level will require pulling the board in and out of the tv several times. The company will give a part number and then you may order this. Striving for success the first time!!!!

Philips rear projection TV component identification, what is it

They adjust FOCUS and Screen settings---they have nothing to do with convergence---if you have not touched them---do not---they are not real easy to reset correctly.

What is wrong with the set and what is the model number?

let me know and I will try to assist you

Philips Convergence for 55PP8620/79

Yes the box marked sanyo is the focus and screen control box. All stk Convergence ICs for rear projection TVs are made by Sanyo, which was the origional producer of the STK series Convergence IC. You need the convergence repair kit for the DPTV series rear projection which consist of two STK392-120 ICs and 11 6.8 ohm 1watt metal film resistors. You can get the repair kit for your model at the following link , they do ship to Austrailia however they do have an international shipping charge which must be purchased for orders outside the north American continent,. They also probide free installations instructions with pictures and free tech support. Heres the link.

Colour misalignment and focus

Inside of the tube assembly, there is a cooling liquid. This could be a job to change, and then re-adjust everything. It is also possible that on top of this, there are problems with the convergence and bias control circuits.

Typical repairs can run in the area of about $400 to about $800 depending on the amount of work and type of parts required.

Personaly, I would go out and get a good Plasma or LCD TV at this point!
