Question about Sanyo Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a sanyo emc1900 commercial microwave. Yesterday the 10 amp top circuit fuse blew for apparantly no reason, no visible signs of any other damage. I replaced the fuse and the microwave tested fine. It was used throughout the day yesterday, but upon first use today there was a smell of burning and a little smoke. not opened the case again yet but any possible solutions would be appreciated, I'm thinking probably high voltage transformer failed or failing?

It may be a shorted or failing high voltage rectifier diode or high voltage transformer.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

My Sanyo microwave model EMD993 just stopped working completely. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem? Has this model got an internal fuse? If so where do I find it?

Ray,
There is an internal fuse.

Unplug your microwave and turn it around and remove the screws holding cover on and then remove the cover. Look for where the power cord goes into the back of the unit and follow the black wire from the cord to where it ends. It should stop an either a circuit board or a fuse holder. Make sure that you replace the fuse with the same amperage fuse as what you take out. You will find the amp rating stamped on one of the silver collars on each end of the fuse. Good luck!

Why does ge microwave blows fuse when door is opened?

Inspect the door switches and the wiring in the light bulb circuit. If the problem is a door switch, it will probably be visibly broken, or there will be burn marks on it. It's also possible that the door switch bracket is bent or broken and allows the terminals to short to the oven frame. Check the lamp socket - if it is cracked or burned, it should be replaced.

Also look for signs of arcing or burn marks on the controller board, especially near the relays (usually black plastic boxes about 1" x 1' x 3/4' mounted near the wire terminals or wire harness connector).

As a general note, it is rare for a fuse to fail by itself. If you find a blown fuse, look for a cause before replacing it. This may prevent wasting another fuse.

Microwave blows fuses

A short likely in the wiring for the light or at the safety switch embedded on the side where the door closes----be careful as a 20 amp fuse takes something major to take out.
(for it to blow)

This might be best left to a qualified service person.

We have a GE Microwave 1440 and the fuse keeps blowing. It blew at the beginning of December and we changed it, it then blew again 3 weeks later and we changed it again. Then just yesterday it blew again...

Each time that it has blown can you remember if you had it set for a higher time? Reason I ask is, it can be any of the components inside that overheats after running for longer periods and the fuse is the part that will (or should fail) if the system overheats. If it's blowing that much, I can tell you it will be better to purchase a new one considering some of the components in a microwave is about $200 each and if the board is bad it's just as high. I say buy a new one and therefore you will have a warranty. We bought a home 3 years ago that came with the same microwave and it lasted about 1 year, and having the same issues. Good Luck.

The range-top light blew and now replacement bulbs

My Whirlpool/Roper microwave/hood combo has the same problem. I replaced the bulb twice, checked the bulb and it works, but not in the microwave. I wrote to Whirlpool asking about the problem. Haven't heard from them yet.

Viking Microwave Model VMOC205SS little over 4

9 amps is approx. correct. Does magnatron make an odd sound when running? If not, you will need to discharge cap then clean terminals with alcahol. Replace diode as well. Should run correctly. If blows again, replace magnatron. Suggest you put a 12 amp fast blow fuse in circuit and nor a 20 fuse.If you dont have a grill or an oven, use a 10 amp fuse.

Sanyo EM S8000-w microwave range quit..fuse?

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open. Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

Belling Microwave Problem

Apparently this one has a mechanical timer. That lack of electronic controls does lessen the complexity. I don't know about the specific regulations concerning British / EU microwaves, but I'm sure there's a fuse inside. In most cases, just replacing a blown fuse will not be the cure, unless one finds the reason it blew. What made it fail (if it did) is the real question. Loose fuse holder allowed excess heat? Shorted component or wiring? Or, is there a failure in the mechanical timer that's causing an open circuit connection? That can certainly happen. Also, a door switch may have failed. This is most commonly caused by opening the door while it's cooking, instead of turning the oven off first. I would suggest you contact Belling service: http://www.belling.co.uk//CMPage.aspx?pageid=130&subsectionid=85§ion=ContactBelling Good luck.
