Panasonic CX-DP801 8-Disc CD Changer Logo
Posted on Sep 07, 2011

I have a Panasonic DP801 8 disc changer. It has been removed from the vehicle and it still has the CDs in it. How can I get the CDs out of the changer when it is no longer wired in for power? Is there a CD eject method I can do manually? Thanks, Jo

Two methods.
1. Remove three screws from each side and the mounting brackets (if applicable). You will have to pull the sides away from the rubber mount vibration dampner things and on the back there s a slot that says "open" where you will need to stick in a screwdriver and gently pry it open. You will also need to push a small screwdriver in the 3 slots on the top and bottom holding plastic clips that secure the front cover. This will let you pull of the plastic front cover. Once you have the cover and the sides and top off, you have to push the 4 spongy rubber supports in toward the unit. They will fit through the little hole. Then you need to carefully remove 2 springs (1 on each side attached at the center/top of each side) that supports the unit weight. Then you should be able to carefully rotate the player toward the back until you are looking at the bottom of the unit. There is still a ribbon cable attached at this point so don't drop anything or it will break. There is a large plastic geared wheel showing on the bottom. spin that wheel with your fingernail to make the CD retract into the magazine. Once it is in the magazine, there is a black small lever on the bottom near the back of the magazine. this holds the spring tension and as soon as you move the lever slightly to the side, the magazine will eject.

METHOD 2. I know all this because my unit died today and I took it apart. If yours is working, I would be willing to pay for shipping to get your unit to Colorado, I will remove your CD's and mail them back to you if I can keep the working CD changer :)
