Printer is printing in RED ink only??

What's going on....I can't get it to print in black?

    Sorry.... but this did not work. I bought a new black cartridge...unplugged the printer...installed it...and it still does not print in black. I took a document, changed the color of the print to blue, and it still printed in red. Any other solutions?

    I was on the phone with HP yesterday for over an hour. They tell me that I have a hardware Malfunction. They want me to buy one of their refurbished C6280 All in One printers. I'm in the process of researching whether I want to stay with HP or try Epson. Any suggestions on a good All In One?

There is probability that the wirings in the cable supplying power to the cartridge do not work. Only the one activating the red color works. If you have access for cable replacement of your printer's model, you may need to replace this. Otherwise, it's difficult to find a cable unless there are surplus stores with these parts. One last try on the printer: remove and reinsert the cable supplying power to the cartridge. It may just be loose because of rapid movement during printing. Also check if there are burnt portions (if there is, you really need to replace the cable) at the terminals of the cable. I hope that works.

Something's gone wrong with your cartridge. Try to use an old cartridge that worked and see if there are changes in print. If there is, then you need to replace your cartridge, it's busted. This issues usually happen when you replaced your cartridge while the printer is unplugged. Make sure you unplug the power cord before replacing the cartridge with a new one.

    Sorry, I forgot to log in. I was the "Guest" in Solution #2 who posted the instruction. Please tell me if this worked. I had an HP printer before and I had a similar problem. Looking for the replacement cable, however, is problematic so I have to give up on the printer which is already five years old.

    I have used HP, Panasonic, Epson and Lexmark. Among these brands I could get best support from HP although none of these brands is flawless. My current HP 900 jams when I insert photo paper although it saves me a lot of money on printing cost. Your selection depends on what is your intended use. Normally, printers should last from 3-5 years because there are moving parts that undergo wear and tear (gears used nowadays are usually made of hard plastic). Multi-function printers tend to be overused because of its many functions and would not last long compared to a printer designed for a dedicated purpose.

SOURCE: Printer not printing black ink

The problem you are all having is with the print head (The black tray that your ink cartridges sit in).

Most of the time a simple cleaning of this will correct the problem, if it does not then you will have to call Kodak support and they will send you out another print head.

But lets try and see if we can get your troubled one to work again by following these steps...

1 - turn printer on and open the lid as if you were going to change the printer ink cartridges.

2- when the ink tray moves into the center and stops, remove both the black and color cartrdiges from the print head.

3- To remove the print head simply place your left thumb inside the head all the way to the left facing up and pinch the upper left lip of the print head to release it, then pull the entire tray out with your other hand ( there is a release inside the tray above the sticker of a finger and bullseye to the far left in the upper left corner inside the tray)

4- With the tray now removed be sure to look at the bottom and you most likely will find a build-up of black ink... clean this off using DRY paper towel as much as you can.
I used rubbing alcohol but if you do this make SURE it is completely dry before reinstalling.

5- Once you have cleaned the print head reinstall it in reverse fashion than you removed it, if you installed it right you will hear a solid CLICK noise.

6- replace the ink cartridges you removed if they still have ink in them and then close the printer lid.

7- You may get a notice that there is a new printer head and or cartridges and it will want to align and or calibrate the sure to do this!

8- Once the printer is recalibrated hit the menu tab on the printer and choose " clean ink head"... Do a deep cleaning 2 times!

9- Now try to print something that contains something black like a text document. If it works you are all set, if it did not then you will need a new print head from kodak. simply explain that you did the above steps and it did not work so that you can avoid support trying to run you through all this. They will send you a new one in 2 days.

Black ink printing red

Some printers only use the black ink to provide a darker black. They also use the other colors to print black. That is they use all three to come up with black. If you color cartridge is out of two of the colors, you may be getting just the red. Otherwise you may have a hardware problem.

HP Deskjet 990cxi Printer NOT printing B/W, only red.

To customer of HP deskjet 990cki: I purchased the HP photosmart Plus B209 ~ January 2010. 3 months into, I have learned that when the color ink that you don't use evaporates, the black ink will not work at all, no matter what you adjust or clean.To make it work you have to purchase more color ink...on & on & on..$$$$. Neither HP nor Best Buy will refund my investment. Spoken with HP customer service reps. in the Philippines & Canada both being outside of the US. NO customer satisfaction. No refunds. I suggest Boycotting both corps.

do you print CD or plain paper, red light is mean jamed paper or change cartridge. Open the top door >press drop ink symbol> look at printer head show on ink ink tray.

Check on your color (not mono) ink levels. If they are low, this could cause this.

Technical info: On this printer, envelope text is printed in "composite black" which means we mix the colored inks to make black. This is done for envelopes and not letters because of the ink properties which resist water and smear. If one of the colors is low, you'll get something other than black.

Epson stylus c45, actually you can print using black ink only, but you have to reset the color ink for it to register as full. :) or you can freeze the ink counter using the ssc service utility before the other ink rans out. :)

Black printing morphs into red after black ink cartridge installation

Your printer creates it's black by using ALL the colours together. This effectively gives a very dark purple rather than black.

It sounds like you have a colour cart that is drying up or may be struggling to get enough air into the cartridge. Make sure you have removed any tape over the vent holes if you are using compatible inks. If not then try running a couple cleaning cycles via the button panel/driver.

If you alter the settings in the driver by going into START - PRINTERS AND FAXES and then right click on your 2610 and select PROPERTIES - the changes you make in here will be set as the default settings for each print job.
