Plug a set of headphones directly into the jack on the front of the drive (next to the little volume wheel) and play a music CD. If the sound is normal, the sound card drivers need to be reinstalled or updated. If not, the drive is shot, replace it, they're interchangeable and cheap.

Fix DVD/CD ROM to work Acer M1610, Computer not detecting DVD/CD ROM. No drive is seen how to fix this, what are my options. OS is Vista

Hi rossclark3,

Try to check the jumper settings of your DVD/CD ROM if it is properly assigned as Master or Slave.
Afterwards, also check the cable connecting the DVD/CD ROM to the motherboard.
Finally, restart your PC and check the BIOS Setup if it can already detect your DVD/CD ROM.

Hope this helps you a lot.

Thank you for using FixYa!

My emachine does not load any dvd rom disc's it will read a cd rom disc but will not recognize the dvd's.model # w3107 2006 year

more then likely the DVD laser part of the drive has burned out, i have nearly the same model and had to replace mine a couple years ago!! This is a classic situation, the CDROM laser is still functional, but DVD is inop!!! New DVD-RW Drives about $20 on www.NewEgg.com and even cheaper on www.eBay.com for a decent DVD-ROM model!!! Easy fix too, just make sure you get the IDE style, or make even faster with SATA, if you have a SATA available on your system!!

I want to buy a pc on low budget how . please help

I would recommend a Dell Inspiron 531. They can be slightly hard to find, but they are cheap and pretty fast. Here are the specs for it:

300W LITE-ON PSU
2.2 GHz AMD Sempron LE-1250 CPU (waaaay faster than it sounds)
nVIDIA Integrated Graphics
Realtek HD Capable Integrated Sound
Dell 0RY206 Motherboard
PBDS DVD-ROM/CD-RW Drive
160 GB WD HDD
2 GB DDR2 RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium

I have an e-machines with a dvd/cd-rom in one that will not work.

i understand that your pc has a single dvd-drive that has the problem that it dos read dvds but not cds...
please give model because this is a rare error.
to check it, get the following disks and the freeware program 'burnatonce' (it is a burning software that accesses the drives on a lower than windows basis )
to check from the hardware side what the problem is:

install burnatonce
run it
open tools/device info
and check if the following disc are really recognized or not

a standard music cd(audio cd)
a computer cd(original ! windows install cd or other install cd)
a self burnt cd containing mp3's (CD-R type, 700MB or800MB)
any other computer cd for pc

an original film dvd
a selfburnt film dvd (DVD-R)
an original computer-data dvd (any PC-Game will do)

if only dvd's work, strange!

get a new drive then.

In my Intel Dual core PC the DVD-ROM open only DVD it does not open either CD-ROM (Data) or Audio,Video CD, why? (It was working good for the few days back)

This can happen when the lens in the DVD/CD ROM goes bad. I have seen this mulitple times. You most likely have two lenses one for DVDs and one for CDs. The CD lens simply went bad. To fix is you will need to replace the whole drive. Individual lenses aren't sold to the public.
Sorry for the bad news. Hope this helps.

Computer

hi gavo,
since its still new, you still have the receipt with you right? better bring it back to where you bought it and let them check it instead, we dont like to void the warranty. :)

were you able to use it even just once? try a different cd, if you use cd in your first attempt, try dvd the next, try movie cd or audio cd, just to isolate the problem.

just post your feedback here,
