Question about Makita DCS51018 18" 45cc Chain Saw 2 Cycle

460 Husquvarna Chainsaw

Howdy,
I just bought two of these. I had a difficult time removing the clutch cover. I followed the instructions putting the bar and chain on. When putting the clutch cover back on the metal ring inside of it will not fit over the clutch brake or what ever it is. I can't tighten the bar down. I am pretty discouraged but know I must have done something wrong. I would so appreicate your help. Thanks, John

How do you release the brake ring so that it will fit (inside?) of the clutch sproket? Once you have the cover off it is difficult (maybe a special tool is needed) to reinstall the cover. Thanks

You cant release the brake if the cover is already off!! My old husqvarna, the brake handle is on the clutch cover so you can prevent this problem. on my 455 I'm in the same boat as you guys, I might have to take it to a saw shop. thanks

I've done this a long time ago (pulling off the cover with the brake engaged) and the above solution fixed it. However, my helper did this with the new 460 we got. When I tried to hand press the cover into the brake lever to release it, it just rounded the plastic catch mechanism, as it didn't get in deep enough for full purchase. I then removed the brake hande from the saw and used it to release the brake and reassembled the whole thing. Fixed.

I have a 340 Huskuvarna but experienced the same problem. It must be a common Husky problem because when I called their tech support the lady told me exactly what to do. So your first solution is to call tech support and they will talk you thru it. Basically though... after you have your bar and chain on. Put you brake handle forward (brake ON postion). Put your cover on, bar nuts on loosely and get the brake part engaged with the cover plate. It doesn't look right at this point. The cover will be crooked/cocked with the front part on and the back part over the clutch off. Then push down on the back part as you pull the brake handle into the off position.

I get this too
pull the front hand guard / brake bar,
the one your left hand would hit if the chain caught a spike or bucked,
back towards the handle, this should release brake shoes, and the clutch should fit

Confirming almostbob there. The anti kick back feature in full extension is causing the misaligment. so just pull back the protruding bar at the front of the saw, and the clutch should click right into place when you are reassembling the clutch.

How do I remove the clutch cover from a Ryobi chainsaw?

There are two nuts that hold the clutch cover and chain bar in place. The same nuts you would loosen to adjust the chain tension. Once those are taken off the cover, bar and chain can be removed.

All Two Stroke Engines will use a 50 to 1 Ratio using Today's
Gas . I would try to to put Premium 100% real gas with all your small engines . The Ethanol blended fuels play hell with the carbs , hoses ,
and internal parts like pistons and valves . Mix enough for about 2 weeks , after that the fuel starts to brake down , this will save you time and money . also Head aches !!!!!!!!!! Hope this helps , Grant

Husquvarna brake band adjustment

If you pulled the brake toward you to engage it, simply push it back out to disengage it. (might take more pressure to release it than to engage it)

I have a husquvarna 61 that just started making a noise like a squeek in the clutch area. I took the clutch off and cleaned the area and it worked fine for awhile but started up again. any ideas? thanks

It may well be the drum bearing, if this is dry it will sqeek, you can grease this bearing through the end of the crank without removing the clutch, this bearing rotates on the crank if the saw is idling, it is not good to leave the machine idling for any lenght of time,it is always better to switch the machine off whilst moving logs ready for cutting, there is no sealing on the bearing so the grease is quickly lost, when the saw is cuttin the bearing is not in use as the drum rotates with the crank.

Hown do you remove the clutch plate on a Husquvarna 455 Rancher

Start by removing the chain brake/side cover, make sure the brake is off before removing, remove the guide bar and chain, the clutch centre has two cut a ways designed to take a screw driver blade, the clutch is just spun onto the crank with a left hand thread, insert the screw driver into one of the cut a ways parallel with the machine, and strike with a suitable hammer, this will eventually jar the clutch off against the compression of the saw, it may well take a good few strikes, but it will go. There is a workshop tool availabe, with a 19mm nut on the top, and two legs to fit into the clutch centre, so as to fit an impact wrench and jar it off , part no. 502541601

Husquvarna 460 rancher 20" bar all new including

The normal reason for a saw to cut to the left, or right is because the cutters have been sharpened more on side than the other, they are now longer on one side, this then sends the cut off to that side. Measure the cutter lenghts, take the correct file and shorten the longer cutters

Change drive spocket

To change the sprocket you need to remove the cover where the bar attaches, remove bar and chain...then you will need to unscrew the bolt on the bell. the bell should slide off...check to see that the new clutch bell comes with bearings, as you may need to purchase separately...then reassemble in reverse order...note: make sure that the brake is NOT engaged when you take the cover off as it will make it difficult to put the cover back...and trying to release the brake with the cover off is VERY difficult

Bought a new Husqvarnia 450 chainsaw and folowed the instructions to fit the chain bar. I found it difficult to take off the clutch cover (the brake had not released fully). I cannot get the clutch cover...

I guarantee you are not the first to experience this. In the future if the clutch cover is difficult to remove please do not!
Reset Chain Brake
Immobilize the clutch cover (blocks of wood on a flat surface to protect the finish) in a vise or with a large C-clamp to a work surface.

Use pliers or a crescent wrench and rotate it clockwise until it latches open. This will require some force. A slight modification reported in a testimonial to the above method follows;
" Thanks for the help. I took your answer and modified the fix a little. I placed the cover on loosely and then moved the bar handle into the right position in order to engage the spoked wheel, then rotated the handle back until the cover fit right. Thanks, SG " – NameRemoved

My Husquvarna Model 61 coils are not working I need a new coil where will i get an old chainsaw for spare parts for my machine now? I am in Sydney, Australia

check and search on E Bay mate, search for "Chainsawa' and "husquvarna", you should be able to pick up something cheap, also the coil from other Husquvarna models may fit, example, a 36 model coil, may fit a 61. A new coil is available from any mower and chainsaw shop, cost about $80.
