I just got the new garmin 760. it worked when I first time turned it on. Connected to PC through USB port for registration. Asked me to upload updated software, but it never let me through. Gave up the registration process but still kept it connected to PC for charging. After about four hours, the screen went black, and it just can not be turned on any more.

I have the exact same problem. It's totally dead and I am totally disapointed. I have the Nuvi 750.

I have the same issue. does anyone know if holding it for 10seconds worked or not?

  • friendi89 Jan 17, 2009

I just received my brand new Nuvi 750, and I could not turn it on even though I hold the power switch for 30 seconds.

  • Trouper May 24, 2009

I was charging my 750 nuvi on the bench with jumpers to a 12v power supply and after disconnecting it would not turn on.

After holding the power button to the left for about 15 seconds then attempting to turn on the unit it worked fine. It must have had a power spike or something that caused it to require a reset. Problem solved thanks to others on the net.

Hold the off button (to the left) for 10 seconds... the system will restart and your garmin should work fine!

Holding the switch does not always work. The problem is that the Garmin batteries wear out very quickly and if you don't charge them every few days they drain completely and the voltage drops to zero. The problem is the brilliant Garmin engineers designed the Nuvi 700s so that the charging circuit doesn't activate when you plug it in if the battery voltage is zero. See the Catch 22? Also, even if you replace the battery, if the new battery is not already charged, you are in the same boat! I solved it by taking the Nuvi apart and zapping the battery with 5 volts across the red and black terminals. It's very difficult because the plug has tiny holes smaller than a typical pin. You have to be very careful too because the lithium polymer battery could catch on fire or explode! I used a very low current to lessen the chance of this. After doing this for about a minute and raising the battery voltage to about 3 volts, I plugged it back in, put it back together, and it was able to charge.

Nuvi 750 Car charger connection is intermittent.Either the Car charger or the Nuvi 750 connection is intermittent. The device will display a warning that it is using the battery - 27 seconds to turn o

It is very rare that it would be a problem with the Nuvi 750 GPS itself. This is because there are stationary gold pads on the bottom of the 750. No moving parts to wear out. We have seen problems with a bad plug on the charger that plugs into the cradle and the receptacle on the cradle can go bad as well. I would suspect more toward the cradle as we have seen the receptacles break away from the printed circuit board that is inside of the cradle. Best way to troubleshoot is to find a friend who has a duplicate charger and cradle and swap each piece, one at a time and see which resolves the problem... either the cradle is bad or the charger plug is bad. If you want us to test your unit, cradle and charger, let us know. Good luck! :) More info on charger issues here:

My garmin nuvi 750 went dead when i got it to

Hello :

Resetting your GPS could solve the problem .

Here is how to reset your NUVI :

1:Turn the Nuvi on.

2:Touch the tools icon on the main screen. The tools icon is represented by a wrench surrounded by a blue circle.

3:Touch the "Settings" icon which appears as a wrench.

4:Push the "Restore" button at the bottom of the screen. A confirmation message will appear asking to confirm restoring the Nuvi to factory settings. Push yes to restore the factory settings
............................................................................................
Try this for hard reset .

Turn off Garmin device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen [ Don't let go ] , and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press “Yes” to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.

Garmin 750 - 90 days old

Had the same problem-try this- leave your nuvi off for about 4 hours. Push the power button to the right(lock position) and then to the left (power on position) and let go. I suspect temperature (getting overheated is the problem. This worked for me.
