Question about Toshiba 40H80 40" Rear Projection Television
I have a 5 year old Toshiba 40H80 HDTV that just was serviced and all three CRT Tubes (RED,GREEN and BLUE) were replaced and anode cables. The TV played perfect for the 5 years except for some faint "burn in" that the replacement CRT Tubes fixed. TV operated normal for two months and then there was a "POP Sound"....no picture or sound but after 10-15 minutes the Picture and Sound returned to normal. Now every time I turn the set on, I get sound as normal but no picture but if I wait 3 to 5 minutes I get a picture to show up on the screen (always RED at first) and then the picture becomes normal with all colors corrected. The TV then operates normally until I turn the TV off. I believe the problem has something to do with something thermally heating up and then coming on (picture wise) normally or a Time Constant for the High Voltage has been affected. The problem is with the TV and not my Cable Provider as I have disconnected the Cable source and the problem on the TV is still there. I cannot believe that it is a problem with the CRT Tubes because I cannot understand how a CRT tube could be bad at first and then become "normal" after 3-5 minutes of warm up time. Hoping that you have some suggestions for the problem and that it is fixable. My service contract has expired. Thanks.
Theres a high voltage block that all three of the anode leads attach to and sometimes a small crack happens across this block and will not let some or all of the crt's get the high voltage all at once untill it heats up a bit. now if this is not your problem i would make sure that all three crt sockets are attached to there tubes all the way as maybe justy maybe there loose and will only work after ther expand a bit. Now another problem that could cause this problem to occor origially would be that someone left off a crt ground strap and the crt arched and popped and caused the problem with the High voltage block. And no I cant see a tube being bad then comming on at first UNLESS when you say the red comes on is the picture all red with small retrace lines(small white lines)in the screen with no picture except for red???? No video only a red blank screen is what i mean. If thats what its doing then yes Ive seen heater to cathode shorts on a picture tube that would cause this problem but to be sure your really gonna need to have the set looked at.. Good Luck
