You can copy files off your old hard drive (if it still working). Remove the hard drive from the computer and attach it to an USB hard drive adapter then plug the USB hard drive adapter and hard drive into an USB port of a working computer.
The computer will detect the USB adapter/hard drive as an external storage device (if the hard drive is OK), you can then open the various folders and files to copy and or backup your data.
After you have installed Windows on your new hard drive then you can copy your files/data onto your new hard drive/computer.

Windows XP does not have support for any disk-drive larger than 2TB. So, your 3TB disk-drive will not work. Upgrade your computer, or buy a 2TB disk-drive.

My old hard drive stoped working so I got a preowned one and now it is telling me it can't read the hard drive what do I do

The preowned hard drive maybe faulty.
To test this hard drive, connect this hard drive to an USB hard drive adapter then plug the USB hard drive adapter into the USB port of a working computer. If this computer can see the USB adapter and hard drive as an external storage device and you can view the folders and files on this hard drive the the hard drive is working, if not the the hard drive is faulty and you need a new hard drive.

PXE - E63 error

This error is related to the hard drive.
It could be a faulty connection on the hard drive - try re-seating the hard drive.
The hard drive may be faulty - go into the BIOS and see if the BIOS detects the hard drive.
If the BIOS cannot detect the hard drive then the hard drive may be faulty ot the laptop's hard disk controller could be faulty.
To determine if the hard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and connect it into an USB hard drive adapter and plug this adapter into a working compute's USB port. If this computer cannot see this hard drive as an external hard drive then this hard drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.
When the new hard drive is installed in the Compaq laptop, insert your Windows installation CD and install Windows, plus the Compaq's device drivers and your programs to get a working laptop again.

Disc drive stopped working

A hard drive can stop working just like any other electronic device when it becomes faulty.
First go into the BIOS configuration and check if the hard disk is detected. If not it could be faulty.
Next re-seat the hard drive, it just may need connecting again to make proper electrical connection.
If it still does not work, then remove the hard drive and plug it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot see it as an external USB hard drive nor can you open the folders and files then the hard drive is definitely faulty.
To get the laptop functioning again, replace the hard drive, install Windows on the new hard drive together with the laptop's device drivers and your programs.

This fault is usually a disk controller problem/fault or the hard drive is not making proper connection or most likely the hard drive is faulty.
Try reseating the hard drive first.
If this doesn't work, check the BIOS to see if it detects the hard drive.
If the BIOS cannot detect the hard drive then remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot see it as an external hard drive and cannot open the folders and files, then the hard drive is confirmed faulty.
Install a new hard drive and install Windows on this drive together with the device drivers and programs to get a working laptop again.

Inspiron 1525 was working fine yesterday but today wont boot. Says it can't access the hard drive.

Does the hard drive LED flash and the hard drive spin up when you bootup?
If it doesn't then you could have a faulty hard drive or a fault disk controller.
Reseat the hard drive to see if it is a connection problem.
If the problem still persists then to test if the hard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter.
Connect this to a working computer's USB port and if this computer sees it as an external hard drive and you can open the folders and files then the hard drive is OK.
If not then the hard drive is faulty and you need a new hard drive in the Dell and Windows installed etc. to get the Dell operational again.

Its saying that there is no disc drive on my notebook and it has worked before, help me fix this!

You computer cannot find your hard disk. The hard drive could be faulty or the hard disk controller has failed.
Reseat the hard drive (remove it and install it again), this may fix your problem with the connector on the motherboard.
If reseating doesn't work, the hard drive may be faulty, remove the drive and insert it into a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port, if this computer see your hard disk as an external drive and you can see the contents of the hard drive then it is OK and the fault most likely is the controler in the laptop.
If you cannot see the hard drive then the hard drive is faulty. To get your laptop operational again, you need a new hard disk and need to install Windows on the new hard disk together with your programs etc.
