Re: Koss DVD home stereo

It sounds more like the motor which moves the laser unit along it's rails is dry and sticking or maybe the rails themselves need a small amount of desintered grease applied. Any good hardware store should help with the grease. Just don't go using automobile type grease, it's far too heavy and will gum the works up. BMW

Try cleaning the lens first as dust sometimes sits there but most of the time dust scatters but film like smoke or grease forms on the lens. Good Luck

DVD will not load

I am not familiar with that unit but if it has some years on it, I am willing to bet that the problem is with the laser on the disc player.

Is the problem mechanical? will it allow you to insert the media?

If it lets you load but and then tries to read the disc but fail, its the optics.

Do you or others smoke? The smoke and dust get sucked in and coat the laser over time. Tar is horrible and coats the lens.

If you suspect this is the problem, then perhaps a little lens cleaner might help. I emphasize "might".

Might be time to replace and upgrade.

Surround sound for DVDs.

If your DVD disc supports it, you will have to enable surround sound from the DVD, as well as the speakers.

Surround on my system

Have you tried what I said and changed the settings in the DVD?
Also, is it a built in DVD player / TV combo, or a separate unit? You can try doing a hard reset..Unplug the TV from the mains, disconnect all cables from tv and wait for 1 hour. Then press the power button on TV and plug in the mains. Same if your DVD player is stand alone.
Try that and let me know..

Movie freezes, skips.

Does sound like the laser. Realitically, not worth repairing. I'd say you'd be worth connecting a cheap DVD player to the system - then the Sony can carry on providing the surround sound audio and the new DVD player can provide the video. Then, if the cheap DVD player is still going, it can move to a bedroom TV if and when you replace the surround system....

Otherwise, I would imaging the speaker set (and even the non-working DVD player) on its own might fetch a reasonable price on an auction site - anyone who has a stolen DVD unit will probably be desparate for the speakers as Sony don't sell them separately!

Koss KS2503 will not come on

You are better off buying a portable; u can get a magnovox DVD player for under $40 with DivX and connect it to the unit, and use it that way.

No surround sound when watching cable tv programs.

Looks like cable is not sending the full whack of audio data only Stereo. Or if they are then the set top box{is that how it works in the States?] has a fault. Check out the cable co support team.
