Lens error

Same thing happened to mine. I sent it back to Canon for warranty service (I just bought it in June) but they wanted $104 to refurbish the exterior of the camera because it was "scuffed and scratched." They contended that if the exterior is not in factory condition, it must be reconditioned to honor the warranty. Well anyway, I told them no thanks (not quite so politely). I just got it back in the mail yesterday and followed the advice of others I found on the 'net. As it's starting up after pressing the power button, a moderately hard whack on the table top (the bottom of the camera, the end where the battery goes) fixed the problem immediately. I'm hoping this will last for a while.
Other suggestions to prevent this, I've found, said to periodically blow canned air around the lens to dislodge any dirt particle. Also, do not shut off or turn on in rapid sequence. Make sure that the lens is fully retracted after shutting off before you say, ooops I forgot to get one more shot, and turn it back on. Apparantly switching direction of the retractable lens in mid stream can cause it to jam up.

The casios have 3 ways to turn them on. apart from the primary button there's the rec and play button, and they tend to get pressed when people carry the camera ina restricted space, such as a pocket.
The lens then tries to extend, and when the camera senses that the lens is obstructed it triggers the error which is meant to protect the lens frmo damage.

What probably happens on many units is that once the error is triggered, there's no going back. while the error is supposed to clear next time you turn on the camera, a fault causes it to be imoperable.


To prevent this you must disable the option of having the rec/play button turn on the camera, which is possible through the menu, or/and have a good case to protect the camera.

You might be able to fix this with a firmware upgrade from casio, unfortunately there isn't any upgrade to this model on the casio web site. I suggest you contact them, and demand this to be treated as a factory fault.

Just found this out via experimentation. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds or more and it will cause the camera lens to go through the full range of motion and as a result recalibrate it and bring the gear system back to zero as it were. A grinding noise might be heard but its only the gears in the lens system skipping cogs. This will not delete the data on any removable media that you might have in the camera. I hope this fixes your problem.

just try to charge the battery... in my case it worked. maybe the camera stayed in my bag and it was turned on and off without my knowledge, so the battery got empty. i charged it and now the lenses pop out again :)

lens shutter wont close and system error keeps flashing

I have a nikon coolpix L2 very similar to L3 and other same series,
the cause of error is the flat cable that drives the step by step engine of lens , in my case it has broken a track that carries the signal from the home position sensor of the lens, I managed to repair it but the repair work has only just time and it is almost impossible without a microscope, the most practical solution is to change the lens, unfortunately it can only make the service center, because the spare part is impossible to find on the Internet and the service center does not sell this part separately

just sell it on ebay!
