Question about HP (400745-001) Sound Card

1 Answer

Can't get sound from an external device

I have a brand new HP Pavilion Laptop that is running Windows Vista. I am attempting to use an external device to connect my camcorder to my laptop and burn a DVD. However, I cannot get any sound to be output onto my computer or onto the newly created DVD. I have tried two different types of devices to accomplish this task, but the result is the same: No sound output.

The troubleshooting guide for one of the devices (Kworld DVD Maker USB 2.0) told me to go to the control panel, select "sound" and under "playback" click on "speakers" and select "levels." From there I was told that I should see something called "line in" or "mic in." However, NONE of that exists. The only entry on that page is the level for "Speakers."

I looked at another laptop that is running Vista, and sure enough. on the other laptop, in that location, there are three additional entries to control levels. They are: PC Beep, Microphone and Line In. Is there something wrong with my sound card or its drivers? Am I supposed to see more entries than I am seeing?

I to am experiencing the same problem. I recently moved and after computer was set up, no sound would come from any external audio device. Everything was triple checked but everything is plugged in correctly. The computer is a HP pavilion slimline with Vista.

Ho do i connect my laptop to my flat screen samsung tv

There are 3 ways ways to do this from the left side of the laptop.

1) S-Video-out jack [Connects an optional S-Video device such as a television, VCR, camcorder, overhead projector, or video capture card.]

2) External monitor port [Connects an external VGA monitor or projector.]

3) HDMI port (select models only) [Connects an optional video or audio device such as a high definition television, set-top box, DVD player, or any compatible digital or audio component.]

Your TV will have one of those interfaces. You just need to look at your user manuals for both the Laptop and TV

My HP pavillion dv6700 laptops sound doesn't work .... the icon has a re x at the bottom and it says no audio device has been installed; it is only 2yrs. old; can this be resolved or would it be best to...

I believe it can be resolved without purchasing a new laptop.

Windows is a 'funny animal'. Sometimes Windows just looses it. You need to reinstall your audio device Drivers again.

It's Integrated Audio used on the HP Pavilion DV6700T laptop. An audio chip soldered to the motherboard.
Another term used for Integrated Audio is OnBoard Audio.
On the motherBoard.

Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit

(If it wasn't Integrated Audio, it would be a separate audio adapter card. {Sound Card} The audio chip is soldered to an adapter card. The adapter card is removable. This would allow replacing the audio adapter card. Not happening for an HP Pavilion dv6700t laptop)

Drivers are small software programs that allow the Operating System to communicate with the device.
(Windows XP and Windows Vista are two examples of an Operating System. O/S)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Device_driver

There is an HP Pavilion DV6700T Entertainment Notebook PC series, and an HP Pavilion DV6700T SPECIAL EDITION Entertainment Notebook PC series of laptops.

I need to know what Operating System you are using. Do I assume Windows Vista? (Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit)

Going with Windows Vista, here is the Audio Driver download page for the Pavilion DV6700T notebook, (Laptop),

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3650962

Doesn't matter what version of Vista it is, this audio file is for all versions of Vista.

On the above page left-click on the + sign to the left of -
Driver- Audio (1)

Now go to the right, and left-click on Download, in the rectangular box.

A small box will come up, Opening sp38899.exe
The name of this file is sp38899.exe

Left-click on Save File.

The file will be saved to, where ever your downloads are set to save to. The file needs to be found, then opened in order to work.

When you see the audio file (sp38899.exe) Double-click on it.
The Windows Installation wizard will lead you through installing.

If you are asked to restart your computer, do so.
If not, restart your computer.

HP dv1000 laptop and internal wireless modem

Although you have internal wireless, you are capable of attaching an external wireless device. For example, you could attached a D-Link WUA-1340 USB Wireless G adapter (http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=477), or, if you have a PCI port, you can use a Linksys WPC300N Wireless-N Notebook adapter (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1144763513196&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=1319686869B07). Either device with any brand will work just like your internal wireless. In fact, because you chose to use an external device, you may get a better wireless signal. Because internal wireless devices are inside the computer, it is more difficult to received a signal than with an external device.

Iomega 500 Gb external hard drive - won't allow transfer of large files

well..allowing is maybe close, but this is most likely a bandwidth from the laptop to the external drive..how do you have them connected? USB Ethernet? for that type of file size, you may find Enet to be the best, or USB 2.0
