Is it possible to upgrade my processor?

I'm a WHIZ with software, hardware on the other hand escapes me, especially on this laptop.   (my dinosaur desktop was fairly easy to monkey with, I installed a motherboard, a soundcard,a proceseor, a modem, etc!) So, can I upgrade to a better processor on this (now dinosaur) laptop??? I want to upgrade memory too, but I'm SCARED! HELP! TIA!

You will be much better off with a cheap and newer laptop. The cpu may even be soldered to the mother board and upgrading the processor is near impossible. The memory should be easy to upgrade but is it really worth it when you could put the money you would use to upgrade towards a new laptop?

Well first off it depends on what kind of mother board you have. if its an older board it might not handle an upgrade. the labur required to change a cpu or proseser is alot. memory is usulay fairly easy thare is normaly a panel underneith the laptop for the ram plate. but if you are not good at this sort of thin i recomend getting it profesinoly.

Is it possible to upgrade the processor for the sony vaio pcg 81114l

most likely this cannot be done, the sockets for the processors have changed twice since then. I don't think you would see a great prefprmace change if you could. You might thim=nk about upgrading to a more powerful core I7 from that generation, but you would need to find out which mother board you have and which processors it supports. Unless you are skilled in laptop repair, I would pass on the upgrade.

Can I upgrade my processor to i5 for my acer 4738z pentium dual core laptop

In general it is possible to upgrade the processor of a laptop, the socket has to be the same. A faster processor may or may not produce more heat than your current one, the heat output is mainly distinguished by the watts the cpu uses.

It is though not very practical to change the CPU. Same socket means that you are bound to processors of the same era, you cannot get a state of the art architecture processor (like i3, i5, i7) with the same socket your P6200 has.

Next point is that it is not that easy to change the processor inside of a laptop, the parts are very tightly screwed into the casing making it hard to do anything in there. additionally you are likely to destroy something or unintentionally wont be able to fit all the pieces in place afterwards.

Looking at the list of pentium processors at wikipedia. It says the P6200 uses a Socket G1, as you can see in that list there are only four CPUs using this socket, and only one that would count as better as yours. So clearly: No, not worth it.

Actually there are some i7's out using the same socket and drawing only 35W, but I wont guarantee that it actually would work, and I doubt that the laptops hardware is made to support this CPU.

It is possible, but I would not recommend it.

Processor

90 percent of the time a processor upgrade in a laptop is not possible as the processors are soldered on to the mother board. The only laptops i know that you can change the processors are early thinkpad by IBM as far as i know.

You can't upgrade the hardware, but you can upgrade the software, like the drivers and possibly the firmware. You can check for software updates at the Fujitsu website.

Can the motherboard of this computer be upgraded? if so, what motherboards will fit in the case/are compatible? (xp)

The D610 is the improved model of the D600. The motherboard cannot be upgraded but it is possible to upgrade the RAM and processor.
However, aside from a ram upgrade and maybe a hard drive upgrade, I'd look at replacing the system as very quickly you lose cost effectiveness especially when a Inspiron 15 starts at $449 this week.

Hello,

PLease try to refer to your motherboard processor maximum support and see the processor you can upgrade to your laptop without buying new motherbaord and other accessories such as memory. Remember if you plan to upgrade device in your laptop please see the hardware maximum support that your laptop hardware can support otherwise if you buy processor and other device beyond the maximum limit support of your current laptop hardware it would not work as you plan.
Thanks

I'm afraid you're out of luck, the motherboard is not capable of taking a dual core processor. Your only option would be to consider selling the laptop and buying a new one that already has a dual core processor installed.
