Bypass defrost timer

Just turn the defrost tmer clockwise to cause defrost or run conditions. If you bypass the defrost timer you will have problems like shorting of wiring or loss of the timed defrost. Why not replace the defrost timer if you know it is defective? What is the model number of your refrigerator? Thanks Sea Breeze

I think defrost timer frig doesnt cool enough and freezer frost up

I think you are having a defrost problem that could be related to a defective defrost timer, adaptive defrost control board, defrost heater or defrost thermostat. Can you post the model number of your refrigerator found around the fresh food section door frame? This is to insure I can point you to the correct parts. All I know is that you have a Whirlpool Refrigerator and these models all have different different parts for the defrost. Thanks Sea Breeze

Whirlpool refrigerator freezes, but not cold enough in lower part. I performed the steps to determine if its a faulty timer, defrost resistance or thermostat. If the refrigerator cycles on and off normaly,but...

Hello,

Yes by advancing the defrost timer to the defrost mode and the heater not come on the defrost timer is good and it will be either the defrost heater or t-stat

When checking the defrost heater using a multimeter set to measure ohms of resistiance the defrost heater should measure to be appx 10-20 ohms if good and infinate ohms if the heater is defective

If good the defrost thermostat will be ZERO ohms...please note when checking the t-stat it MUST BE CHECKED WHEN COLD so its best to check it when frost is built up on the evaperator (freezer)coil

Model FF631 continues to frost up, thus requiring manual defrost by removing the ice, any ideas?

Sorry to hear about your problem.

Sounds like you have a defrost issue. Hence your unit is not defrosting. All of this apply's if your freezer side has ice on it.

Here is a list of some things that can go wrong.
1. Defective heat coil
2. Defective defrost timer
3. Defective defrost sensor
4. Defective Fan

You should call a service company to resolve your issue.

Since I tried to help you, Please help me and Rate/Vote on the response. Thanks

Where (specifically) is the defrost timer located on my GE GSS22JEMD (Side by Side) Refrigerator? How Do I check to see if my thermostat is working or not? Please help.

The timer is controlled inside the control board on rear of your refrigerator. Four possibilities are the defrost element, defrost thermostat, Temperature CLIP EVAP THERMISTOR or the control board is defective. Let me know if you would like me to help you on this, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.

QUESTION ABOUT DEFROST TIMER

i'm not sure what kinda timer you have there are two, one is a timer you can cycle yourself on or off the second is a defrost board does the same-thing you just can't force a defrost with it. but the way to know if it working is (defrost timer) cycle the unit in to defrost try to hear any sizzling if so your heater and defrost t-stat are ok i would replace the timer. now on the defrost board since you can't cycle it i would check the defrost element and defrost t-stat with a meter you should read a closed circuit if the heater is good, and if the coil is frosted up you should also read a closed circuit on the t-stat again replace the board. Hope this helps you
