Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an acer aspire m1610, I'm desperately trying to disable the onboard video card in order to add a geforce 8500 but there's no way to disable the onboard video card via the bios and the computer wont start if the geforce 8500 is installed in the pci express slot, any suggestions?

Are You sure the graphics card is not defect?
When I installed a graphics card instead of the onboard
circuit, the SIS Mirage was disabeled automatically.
I have installation CD for the graphics, of course.
Also, I thought that disabeling devices could be done
through the control panel, "hardware devices".

most desktops disable on board GPU in favor of the better add-on card. Your best bet is get an add on card with multiple outputs and hook all your monitors to that card. Using 2 different cards is a pain in the aft.

some bios settings disables the add on video cards. to enable them go to bios setting by pressing DEL or F12 while power on your system. (u will see that a message appears "press ----- Key to enter bios settings). after entering bios setting u will see onboard VGA enable/disable. u have to disable onboard VGA in order to get the display thruogh VGA card.

Hi,

You can disable the onboard VGA card in BIOS, to do so
keep on tapping F2 button as soon as you hit the power button, under the CMOS search for VGA or onboard VGA and click Disable.

Remove the GeForce card.
Enable the onboard video as "primary".
Start Windows.
Within Device Manager, remove the driver for the GeForce adapter.
Download the latest software software for the GeForce video-card,
and install it.
Shutdown.
Insert the GeForce card, and leave the onboard video as "Primary".
Start Windows.
It should treat the GeForce card as an "additional" video-adapter,
as if you had two monitors, side-by-side.
If it works in this configuration, shutdown.
Set the GeForce card to "primary" and restart.
If it works in this configuration, shutdown.
Set the onboard video to "disabled".
Restart.

Connect the monitor to the onboard video connector first. then
you need to disable the on-board graphics in the BIOS save the setting and shutdown. Then connect the monitor to the GeForce video connector and boot up then you will get a video signal on the GeForce video card.

Disabling onboard video on Acer aspire m1640

you cannot dissable the on-board graphics in the bios, in the graphic options you must choose which port you want to use, if you have a pci express card then chose pci as the primary graphics, press ok then F10 your pc will reboot and the on-board vga won't load up in windows

good luck

it's not really the computer... that appears to be a dual core with 2gb of ram.... you will most likely need to invest in a video card with suffiecient onboard memory to run the games
