Knobs melted when simmer pot was used....where to get replacements

Hello Sharon,
are the two left hand burners "simmer burners" that low come on and go off to simmer a pot?
and the right side just set on and turn off without the simmer option?

if yes this pretty much describes your cooktop the part called the potentiometer is going the be the problem.

What color is your cook-top? The stainless model may have actual steel knobs.. End your model number with "s" when looking for the parts..
If you have stainless and they are still plastic "stainless look" knobs then call the manufacturer as they would be the only ones to be able to determine if there is a metal knob available for your unit.

I had the same issue on my jgp975 and sadly I had to purchase a different unit. I use simmer frequently and I made the assumption that low was simmer. Wrong. I believe a true simmer is 450 btu and my unit did not go that low. I had to check the fine print/specs page and on some units the manufacturer had to be called. I did replace with another ge profile that did have the low setting.

after using the simmer portion a mini explosion occurs after about 10 minutes and the flame goes out. if other burners are on they also go out. only happens when simmer is on

I am not sure of this Model but most of the Gas Rail Cocks ( Taps) when you remove the knob you will find either a small hole drilled into the spindle This would be the Low Burner (simmer Rate) Adjustment there would be a small screwdriver requiredto do this , if its not there ,then there is usually a small screw on the side of the tap under the Knob Hope this will help you

NO METAL KNOB FOR THAT MODEL COZ IF USE METAL EVERY TIME U USE IS HOT THATS WHY DESIGN FOR PLASTIC,MUCH BETTER TO U REMOVE THE KNOBS AFTER U TUNN ON THE HOBS TO LESS MELT THEN RETURN IT IF U TUNR IT OR ADJUST.

sorry to say no , if you try to peal it off or scrape ot off you will crack the cooktop . this keeps happening i have seen it at around 4 times for some reason revere ware melts . there should be a warning in the manual ( i know ge does have the warning about copper bottoms ) . replaceing the cooktop or the whole stove is the only "true" answer .... sorry .....Please if this answer helped , please rate this 3 or 4 stars . and keep me in the paid answer department . one way is the orfice that goes inside the burner.some have a little screwin the knob shaft to ajust.if no screw its the orficc.theres a tech sheet that will give you more detail about that on that stove.bottem drawer area or back.also so ranges have orfices on them in the back also.God bless,tom

Lowly what the potentior does is turn on the burner control system. When you turn on a normal burner you are opening a gas valve and closing a switch to generate a spark. Thus gas flow to the burner and spark. On the extra low simmer burner there is a electric solenoid between the burner head and the gas valve. this has to open as well for gas to flow. What the potentior does is signal the simmer control what level of flame you are requesting and telling the spark module to generate a spark. Once you go to the exlow setting the potentior tells the simmer control what level of heat and will cycle the flame on and off. So when the burner knob was between low and extra low, the flame would cycle on and off. You have to seperate the top section of the cooktop from the burner box to change the potentior for it sits on top of the gas valve for that burner.

take the knob off, and take a very small flat screw driver, and inside the valve, turn it to the left, go slow, and you'll see that it goes down, there ya go
