Secuity codes for a BMW radio

When you disconnect your battery and then reconnect it again, it disables the radio. This is an anti-theft protection for your car radio.
The enable your radio the activation code is in your vehicle owner's manual. If you do not have this code you need to go to your BMW service centre and get them to enter this code for you.

You will need to contact your local BMW Dealership to retrieve the Radio Code. This is free as long as you can prove you are the owner of the Vehicle.

The 95 BMW 525i I bought has a code problem everytime I turn my radio on. The Battery was disconnected when the dude quit driving it for a month or so.

These older BMW radios may use a different type of code system and will require further advice.

Every BMW radio has a different radio code. It's an anti-theft device. If you are the original owner of the vehicle and still have the owner's manual package you should be able to find a card in the package labeled "Radiopass" that will have the code. If you don't have the pass there are a couple of ways to get the code depending on the model of the radio. If the radio is still in the car simply turn the radio on and press and hold the "m" button within a few seconds of turning the radio on to get the radio's serial number. That will be the number needed to get the radio code. Not all BMW radio models have that feature. If you cannot retrieve the serial number that way you will need to remove the radio and get the number from a sticker or plaque on the radio. At this point you will need to take that number to a dealership and have them get the radio code for you. NOTE: if you bring them just the number or just the radio and are not able to provide proof of ownership they will not give you the code. Be prepared to prove that you are the rightful owner with a copy of your registration and driver's license. BMW typically requires that both pieces of ID have the same name and address so you won't be able to send someone else on your behalf.

2001 bmw 740il when the radio is turned on all i hear is static. it does display the chanels but no reception. the cd or cassette won't work either. any ideas?

i have the same problem in my 2000 bmw 740i with navigation. i bought the car and the radio didn't even turn on and the used car dealership told me they didn't know what the problem was but i found that the fuse for the radio wasn't plugged in and when i put it in the radio and everything worked (cd, tape, etc) however static was coming from the passenger side speaker and im wondering if its just a speaker problem or if its more serious. please if anyone has any incite email me as i don't check this site often at all. any info would be a great help thanks again everyone.

My radio in my 1995 bmw 525 won't work. Just displays ''code''

That means it has lost power, maybe the battery was disconected. Do not try to guess the code, if you enter the wrong code three times, it will lock. You need to get the serial number off the radio, and then BMW can get you the code. If you can not remove the radio yourself, take it to somewhere like Best Buy to have it pulled out. They will charge you much less than the hour of labor BMW will charge to pull it. Hope this helps.
