I was haveing a problem with my Whirlpool dishwasher. The clean light kept blinking. The control panel was unresponsive save for the drain button. After reading this posting I tried the suggestion on my dishwasher. After pushing the high temp and the dry buttons nothing happened. I kept trying switching from different cycles trying to remember what action I was trying to do the last time I used the dishwasher. Finally on rinse only, high temp, and dry it spun to life. The dishwasher cycled through nearly all the options on the display console for about 5-10 minutes. It looked like a blinking christmas tree alternating through the cycles. But so far so good it seems to be back to normal operations. Thank-you

I didn't find an "AIR DRY", so I pressed high temp & heated dry twice as suggested by catriver...and it cleared after going thru the cycle. Thanks a lot.

There was a heater quality rework on this model and depending on your serial number, yours could be included. The flashing clean light is because the thermistor did not detect 2 to 4 temp increase in the water during the first 8 minutes of the wash cycle. I believe you can clear the error by pressing high temp then air dry then high temp and air dry again. This will put it into the service mode. Just let it do it's thing. If you had the rework done on the heater, other possibilities would be door latch not closing proper. The nuetral side of the heater runs through the door switch. Make sure to let the tap water run hot before you start the dishwasher. The heater itself will ohm out at 10 to 35 ohms. Hope the information helps out..

One more option (over "catriver" solution) is to check if you have water in the machine. In case there is no water in the machine, let me know and I will instruct you how to go on with problem's solution.
Good luck !

I too had Flashing Clean light and only responded to Cancel light by trying to drain. Whirlpool Model DU1145. I too got problem to clear by pushing High temp,Heated dry, High temp and Heated dry. All lights on display lit up then it went through sequences of all cycles.

I had the same problem... clean light is flashing and the washer will not start. Catriver's advice was right on; press high temp, heat dry, high temp, heat dry. All the lights lit up for a few seconds and the dishwasher then operated correctly. Thanks catriver!!!!
