Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC20 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Nightshot Plus I am unable to switch nightshot plus off. Which is making it impossible to video in daylight. I think, looking at the camera it has been dropped and suspect that the switch is not working correctly. How do i strip the camera to get at the switch?

If you really feel up to it the thing has screws, start opening them and take of the plastic cover. But think 4 times before messing with a 400 $ camera, maybe you'd rather take it to a lab, shouldn't be too expensive. There's many things that can go wrong if you do it yourself Good luck

Can't turn off nightshot on my handycam help!!!

Option 1:

Using the NightShot:

1. First Set the POWER Switch to Camera, Slide NIGHTSHOT to ON.

2. The NIGHTSHOT indicators flash on the screen.

3. To cancel the NightShot mode, Slide NIGHTSHOT to OFF.

Option 2:

1. Let us try to reset the Camcorder and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

2. Locate the RESET button behind the LCD screen of the Camcorder.

3. The Camcorder should be switched ON when you reset the unit. Press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object.

NOTE: Resetting the Camcorder will reset the settings of the Camcorder to the factory settings including date and time. It will not delete any data saved in the Camcorder.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the solution, I would only add that it's on the top of the camera itself. Not in the digital menu or backlight button. On my older version, it's between the cassette and lens sections of the camera.

Sony handycam camcorder lcd screen white and no displays

For the "all white screen" in daylight problem, check to make sure the "Nightshot Plus" slider switch is set on "off."

DSC-F717 - "stucked" in nightshot mode

Yes you are right, it is more than likely the nightshot button that has shorted.

This is button is part of what we call the Switch control Block.

Phone your local Sony service Centre and ask them how much it would cost to replace the switch control block. My estimate is about a 1/5 of the original cast you paid for the camera.

Good luck.
