I have an Acer Aspire T180 R01-B3 which stopped booting up just 15 days out of warranty!
I have tried 4 times to run the eRecovery disk that I created on first boot up, in August 2007. But although it says it's been successful, when I click OK to restart my PC it still won't boot up!
So I installed a brand new hard drive and ran the eRecovery disk on that, but the same thing happened.
I then tried running a full retail Vista SP1 DVD. But after pressing any key to boot from CD/DVD - all that happened was the grey striped progress bar saying Windows was loading files - and then NOTHING! The DVD-ROM showed no activity whatsoever and neither did the activity light on the PC.
PC World say the motherboard is faulty and that as they did not stock Acer EM61SM/EM61PM motherboards, they could put in a "similar" mobo but that I would then need a new CPU as well!!
So does anyone know where can I find a manual or the full specifications for the Acer EM61SM/EM61PM motherboard? Or better still, where I can buy a new one??

There may be one available as a block diagramme for a fee on a web site somewhere but that is not common.
Most manufacturer trained computer engineers know how motherboards work alongside the firmware and chosen software so there is no call for them.
Remove the battery and power source. Remove the RAM and hdd. Power up with the power supply and it should do something. If it does, replace the RAM and hdd it should now restart. If nothing, check the GPU.
I would suggest you try safe mode.
Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words "Safe Mode" appear in the corners of the display to identify which Windows mode you are using. If an existing problem does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.
If you don't know the cause of the problem, you can use the process of elimination to help you find the problem. Try starting all of the programs you commonly use, including the programs in your Startup folder, one by one, to see if a program might be the cause of the problem.
Follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode with networking:
1. Restart your computer if it is powered on.
2. Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
4. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
5. Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.
6. You should see drivers loading, and then please wait.
7. You should then be at the Welcome Screen.
8. Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.

Manual. I suspect that the information you have been given regarding battery removal and passwords refers to removing the cmos battery as in a PC in the hope that it will clear Bios activated passwords.
It sounds like it could be either the battery is going bad and not holding a charge or the adapter is. I have had really good luck with similar problems going to places like Batteries +, and large electronic retailers, and my favorite the small local mom and pop computer store; where I end up asking them If I could try one of the adapters from the floor model to eliminate if is a faulty adapter. Without knowing what the desktop computer motherboard is, I\'d only be guessing as to location of Wi-Fi chipset. However even if I knew the motherboard manufacturer name, and model number; the point is Moot.
A) You remove that Wi-Fi chip, and kiss the motherboard goodbye. It\'s designed into the circuitry of the motherboard.
Isn\'t going to be jumper wires taking it\'s place, and making connections to circuit traces on the motherboard.
B) Do you have a wireless router? Dunno. Do you have a wireless connection set up? No.
You can use just a LAN connection. (Hard wired)
C) Suggest if having a Bluetooth option on your motherboard is not an option then use a different motherboard that doesn\'t have that option.
Open the cpu cabinet cover.Then reconnect the RAM memory into motherboard.
Make sure motherboard is not ground with cabinet cover.
Clean dust from motherboard .If there is any pci or vga card reconnect it.
Also pull cmos cell from motherboard for 10 minutes then all settings defaults then check.
