Question about Radio Shack Pro-97 Handheld Scanner

Pro-97, only want to listen to EMS

I am an EMT in North of Atlanta. I'd like to listen to our dispatch and admin channel if at all possible.. I have the group of channels we use as well as the ID number, but when i enter those... it lets me listen to ALL traffic on those frequencies. I ONLY want our dispatch. How do i fix this?

ok lemme tell ya'll exactly what i did, i entered all my frequencies into a "bank" then i entered the ID number for my dispatch into one of the subgroups. I will get my dispatch as well as every other non trunked frequency. I ONLY want to hear my dispatch. should i just wait to hear my dispatcher and "lock onto" that channel.

Not being completely familar with the radio system you use... i would presume that your dispatch uses a subaudio tone to "turn off" the squelch on the radio you use as an emt.... if you know that tone make sure it is turned on for the scanner on the frequency that you are using. i presume the id numbers are specific to areas of the city.

if you can hear your dispatch yes.... lock that one... i believe it's just a question of hitting manual. i'm not familiar enough with trucking system.... your idea will work if the dispatch channel always stays the same....

p.s. if there is a priority channel that you can set .... you may want to set it that channel...

    Cant pick up stations

Most police stations are using the new motorola trunking units, they are on encrypted custom band channels and you will not be able to hear them. All police helicopters are equipped with them. All i can hear where i live is Fire dispatch, I cant even hear the fire fighters responses .

How to receive dispatch reception on uniden bc72xlt

Most dispatch communications in and around major metropolitan areas are now handled via trunked radio systems which your BC72XLT is not capable of monitoring. Some dispatch, especially fire and EMS, should be available to you, and possibly some police activity. For a comprehensive database of active frequencies and services in your area, visit:

My radioshack pro-97 scanning-reciver is making a noise like morse code what would cause this to happen?

That's something normal, depending on the freqs you're listening to. All radio frequencies have an FCC-assigned ID associated with them, typically 4 letters and 3 numbers, such as "WRYH 934", which identifies the agency transmitting on that frequency. Some newer systems use morse code to transmit that ID so the dispatch center doesn't have to read the ID over the air. It's not your scanner.
