Hi... On my NIKON COOLPIX 5600 camera, when taking a picture indoors with the flash permanently set to ON ...[eg When the light is poor, but maybe not dark enough to ensure the flash works automatically]...the picture seems to take ok, the flash flashes and then the camera retracts the lense and shuts itself down.
On turning on the camera again, thee picture has not been saved or stored.I have just 13 pics saved to memory and my memory card should hold around 300 pics.
So the camera is just 10 weeks old, I should have lots of spare memory and, since both the flash and the motor work, the batteries would appear to be ok.
It could be the batteries. They have enough power to run the camera but with the extra heavy load of the flash recharge it's throwing the towel in and closing down, especially as it only uses two AA cells
If you're using Alkaline batteries chuck them and get some 2600ma NimH rechargeables. This could solve your problem.
Why camera manufacturers include alkaline batteries in a brand new camera is beyond me. They really are rubbish. They may give the impression they have enough life but a flash recharge can knock'em for six.
I heard of 5600's that have problems with the flash - long recharge time, turning off after taking a picture, etc. This is not a setting thing you can adjust, or anything that you caused yourself, but a lemon.
Take it back to the shop and ask for a replacement, and in no way agree to pay for a repair, it's not your fault.
