Kindly check this link for resolution. if it doesn't solve the problem, then it must be a hardware related issue. or you need to install video codecs.

Dvd rw wont play dvds or cds my lapyop is a toshiba equium l40

Update the drivers and check, also try and use a lens cleaner on the drive and if the DVD does not read then the drive is faulty and must be replaced. Finally you can check this on another PC to confirm.

Toshiba satellite a300 wont load dvd but will play cd. Was working fine yesterday (dvds work ok on my other laptop)

Try to upgrade the driver for the DVD player. This is done in the Device Manager.
Upgrade or reinstall the software used to play the DVD.
One of the best players for DVD and all sorts of other media is the VLC player - a free download.

My laptop used to play dvds but no longer works, cd's still work fine but dvds wont play, but still come up in computer.

02bc6b7.jpg Do follow steps,
1) change your DVD disk :- if it's work, don't worry about the driver.
2) go to Device Manager & check the DVD/CD ROM driver's property, check weather it has been disabled.
3) change your OS or Upgrade current OS
4) if above steps are not worked, then you have to bring your laptop to a service provider...

if you are in warranty period don't remove any parts of it, they will replaced a another DVD driver

My a60 plays some dvds and not others - why?? I am not using rental copies!!!

are there any common characteristics of the dvds it won't play? Use this link to download and update your codecs.

http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Codec stands for encoder/decoder keys which basically instructs the computer and the media player how to properly record and playback media correctly.

Now that your codecs are updated, see if the problem continues. If the issue persists, (i am assuming you already checked the surface area of the dvds to see if they were dirty, scratched or damaged) then double check the specs on acer's website to see the compatibility limitations on the player. not all dvds are created equal my friend... newer video compressions, track layering, and hi-def technologys may be beyond the capabilities of your laptops current device. the good news is, upgrading the optical dvd drive to work with the latest innovations is not difficult and its not going to set you back.

let me know what happens - if i was able to fix-ya, let us know by submitting your feedack.

My dvd drive in my computer won't play dvds

1. Completely remove any dvd/cd player/burner softwares (i.e. Nero, Power DVD, etc.).
2. Go to device manager and remove your DVD/CD device from the device list
3. Restart you laptop
4. Windows will then try to reinstall the device drivers again for the DVD drive.
5. After another restart, then reinstall your dvd softwares again.
