Dra.comI was running out of space, uninstalled several programs taking care of not deleting any shared libraries, also I installed the latest windows updates and now my monitor is not recognizing the best resolution. I asked viewsonic and told me to reinstall de videocard drivers, which I did. I have more choices of resolutions but not the suggested for this monitor (1440 x 900).

try to delete large file or free space your disk , you can see your CPU proccess in task manager if your cpu work 100 % ,that makes your laptop become slow , try to disable program on start up windows->run->msconfig disable program and then try to maintain your laptop performance with utilities like advance system care or tune up utilities , defrag your harddisk , if your laptop still slow , try to reinstall your OS if this happen , then your hardware have trouble

A frozen computer might be a one-time occurrence, or it could be the sign of a more serious problem. If the computer continues to freeze up, there are several items that should be checked out. The first step to take is looking at any recently installed software. Programs such as freeware or shareware often contain malware that can damage the system. Uninstall (not simply delete) all unused applications. These programs take up space on the hard drive and reduce the area for temporary files and load the Windows registry with dozens or even hundreds of file that need to be loaded at boot time. Both of these situations can drastically slow a computer down during boot and while running.

Perform some disk "housekeeping". Run Cleanup to remove old temporary and orphaned files, cookies, etc. Read the directions carefully before using.

Run the Windows Disk Defragment Program. It is a tool for each hard drive. This program consolidates data and free space so that the disk has large, unbroken blocks of unused space to write temporary files - and makes reading data easier as it can be found in one place - instead of having to hunt all over the disk to find it.

Remove existing and prevent future "****" from collecting by using Ccleaner aka "**** cleaner". When run and set up correctly, it will remove and prevent accumulation of junk files and spamware. Again, read directions carefully and allow updates to the program for maximum protection.

Lastly, install a good Anti-Virus program. Norton stuff is very good, BUT can slow a machine down considerably. Other choices are Avast (free "Home" version available) or Viper for about $30. Both are very good to excellent and have minimal impact on the computer speed.

does windows boot?

if not you need to break out the repair disks that came with the computer, they will bring it back to factory state.

if windows boots than you should stick to useing the windows uninstaller to unistall programs. deleting random things may cause an issue with a dynamiclly linked library, even third party DLL's may boot at startup if windows regestry thinks it should be there but it isnt then there will be a boot error that will result in a blue screen on boot.

the fix is to re install the OS, using the original repair disks or by aquiring a windows install disk from a friend.

There are several reasons for a system to boot slowly.
1. Hard disk space is full
2. Temporary files have not been deleted
3. Unused Network shares have not been removed.
4. An over abundance of start up programs. Run ms config to see all the programs that start with Windows. Look at the Startup tab. Be careful not to make changes unless you know what you are doing.
5. Spyware.Malware, and other malicious programs

Some classic reasons a computer slows down. 1. It's possible that your computer may have so many background programs running that there is not enough main memory to run your main programs. All icons in your computer's system tray are background programs using memory.
To see and remove all running background programs:
a. Press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys at the same time.
b. Click any program or task except Explorer or Systray.
c. Then click End Task.
Repeat steps b and c to quit all programs except Explorer and Systray which are necessary components of Microsoft Windows.
You should now have a clean system, however you have just removed the programs from your computer's memory
, they will all return the next time you start Windows.
If you don't want certain background programs starting when you boot, use the Start/Search function to find the program and either configure it not to run at startup, remove it from Programs/Startup, or delete it from your system.
2. Your hard drive could be too full of data to function efficiently. There should be at least 300MB-500MBs of free space to allow for disk file chores. Note that this mostly applies to the C: drive or whatever drive your Window's cache is on.
If your C: drive is too full, delete unused programs on the C: drive to make space.
3. Your computer could have a fragmented hard drive. This results from programs being loaded and deleted. Run the Window's hard drive defragmenter (Defrag) once a month.
4. If you have 256 MB of memory or less, or you like to play games, you may not have enough system memory to run your software efficiently. You should probably upgrade to 512 MB or more of system memory.
5. You could have old or conflicting Windows device drivers. An example would be you might actually have two entirely different video drivers on your system and Windows could actually be alternately using both of them.
To prevent this problem, First boot the computer in Safe Mode by pressing and holding the F8 key during startup, after the DOS memory check has completed.
While in Safe Mode select Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Devices. Click on all the devices and see if the various drivers have any yellow or red exclamation marks (which indicates a driver conflict) and also determine if there are any duplicate drivers that can be eliminated.
You may have to delete and reload a driver to correct these problems. Duplicate drivers can and should be deleted.
6. As each new Windows program is installed and uninstalled, it leaves behind parts of itself that can slow down or crash your computer. These are mostly .dlls and other shared files.
It's also very possible when uninstalling a program that needed Windows system files can be deleted. When your computer asks if you want to uninstall shared files it's usually safest to say no -- even if your uninstall program claims the files are not being used.
Old Windows drivers can be found by booting into Safe Mode, then opening Control Panel/System/Devices and ridding your system of old drivers.
Another option is to use various system cleaning software, like Norton Utilities, Windoctor etc.
Otherwise, the only real answer to this problem is to reload Windows into a new directory which eliminates all old junk and leftover files. This is something to do last, as you will also have to reload all your Windows settings, drivers, and programs.
7. Your computer could be full of adware, spyware, viruses, or trojans. These are all nasty programs that literally take over the functioning of your computer so they can run their programs. You definitely don't want any of this junk on your computer. To get rid of these parasite programs, and to prevent them from installing in the first place, you need and up-to-date firewall, anti-virus, and spyware removal programs.
These are three separate software programs that must be running at all times except for when you are not plugged into the Internet. It is very important that these programs continuously update themselves or they will become out-dated and will no longer be useful. These programs can be purchased together or from separate manufacturers

The reason is that you might installed many unwanted or unused programs.
you have written that you have eliminated the programs. means you deleted them or uninstalled them. deleting the start menu entries will not delete the software. you have to go to start->controlpanel->add or remove programs,
then uninstall the programs which you dont need.
and there is no need to install the windows again.
if you deleted the start menu entries. then also you can uninstall the software by the above method. if that didn't work try to delete carefully the softwares that you don't require in the program files folder.

are you using the latest YM? why not try downloading the latest YM but before installing it, uninstall some unwanted programs or those that you dont use anymore...free some disk space.

then try installing the latest YM now.

If you have the origional CD that came with the monitor, use that to re-install the drivers for the monitor back onto the pc. Then go to viewsonic and look for updates. Do a "system restore" and put the system back to the condition prior to doing all of this. I will re store your files to what they were but "system restore" will not roll back "windows updates". This will tell you if it is something you did or windows did.
