Stylus R220. Just replaced the black ink and it still won't let me print. Keeps saying REPLACE CARTRIDGE. I'm using a Mac. Supply Levels Utility is completely useless. Says Information Not Available. Need to finish this print job. Please help.

Problem is with carriage unit.

You won't be able to print if one of the cartridges is out of ink. The printer needs all cartridges with sufficient ink levels to prevent damaging the printhead.

Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.

Silly question: Did you remove the plastic tape from the bottom of the cartridges when you installed them?

You can only use the black ink cartridge without the color ink. But no need to replace them in your printer.
When you print just choose black and white for the printed text must be black not colored. But if you still received such notification...just try to replace the color ink cartridge to continue printing
Note: As per my experience. printer with exclusive black ink alone will damage the printer easily due to unbalance printing of ink

If you are running the drivers included in the Mac OSX, you won't have levels. These are generic/running drivers only.

Be sure you are using genuine epson ink. Epson printers are "smart" and will not allow generic ink to work properly. Even after you replace a generic with a genuine it may take several print outs and alignments to get it to print again.

usually if you go to your devices where the epson stylus is shown in control panel or whatever for mac's there choose something similar to properties I would guess there is a box that can be checked that would allow to show ink levels.

No it,s not a glitch, the printer is informing you that these are also out of ink.
Go To START/PRINTERS/Right Click On EpsonR220/Printer Preferences. Tick The Box Draft Or Text.
Should Now Print In Monochrome ( Black and white )
Yoou probably have it set to photo or other colour option.

The machine needs all six cartridges. No way around it. This you could try go online download the Epson utility from www.ssclg.com Installit. learn to use it- click on the icon to set up the printer then right click the task bar icon and look at all the options With all six cart in place use rest set all colours Then try.
