Problem w/ JVC Digital Camcorder GR-D33US

I am having trouble with my digital camcorder, model # GR-D33US. I cannot see through the viewfinder, it's completely black as if the lens cap is still on. Also, nothing shows on the LCD screen, it is completely black as well.

It has been recalled from JVC for this problem. Go to their website and plug in the model number. Or call their 800 # and ask them where to send it off.

I am having a similar problem. My cam corder can play video, but cannot record video, it records audio ok. Also the screen and view finder go from blue on initial turn on to gray, all icons work on the screen, and when i switch from auto to manual a slight line comes down from the top to the middle of the screen.

The viewfinder is completely black. It picks up sound, but it will not record video. I can see video I previously recorded, but can not record new video.

I recieve a message, 'lense cap is on'. I can watch what is on my tape, but when i record, it records a black screen and the audio. I cannot see anything through the view finder and lcd screen just shows, batter life, zoom bar and any effects I apply. Please help. This camcorder has been used 3 times but is over 3 years old. It has never been dropped and has been stored in a dry location in laptop bag.

Same problem as described by others. How can I arrive at a solution?

  • Anonymous Jun 09, 2008

On switching on the view finder says Remove Lens Cap - but its already off - black view finder. Can replay all old recordings and will record sound, but black picture. Looking throughthe reviews it appears to me that JVC have brought to market a camnera that is not fit for purpose - too many people with the same problem and the suggested cuase is low quality pan capacitor - anyone tried to get JVC to own up?

Found this on the JVC Website, gonna give it a try and see what happens...

CCD Program for This Model - GR-D33US JVC has received reports that in certain circumstances, this model may, while in the camera mode, show no picture, a distorted picture and/or display “LENS CAP” even though the lens cap is removed. We have identified the probable cause as a failure of the CCD image sensor. Repairs of units exhibiting these problems as a result of a defect in the CCD image sensor will be made free of charge at JVC Factory Service Centers. Click this Repair Request link to download a Repair Request Form and find your nearest location.
Please call our Customer Care Center at (800) 858-6442 if you encounter any problems in obtaining a free repair. We apologize for any inconvenience and are appreciative of your understanding and support.

Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.

Can you playback movies made on it before??? if yes then you have a camera problem and could be a auto iris issue as someone put the camera in manual iris mode or the iris is stuck and a lite tap will usually dislodge the iris OR its the pan capacitor problem ..The pan cap problem is still happining because manufacturers are still using those crappy panasonic surface mounted caps in most camcorders and the less you use the camcorder the more they leak out and distroy the printed curcuit board. Sounds like your gonna need a expert to diagnoise this for you. Good Luck . proinfo@jvc.com and if thatdosent work try (800) 252-5722

Yes. You can use any MMC or SD card. Be sure you get an SD card, not an SDHC card, if you go this route.

Need drivers for jvc gr d33u camcorder

Hi,
You don't need a driver to transfer video to your computer. You do need software that works. You can use microsoft movie make to transfer it. Also here is the user manual for your camera as well:

Cannot record due to a black screen

OK, that means you can see clear picture in playback of old recorded tapes and camcorder just wont give you live view to record any more.
If its true then it is known problem/ failure of ccd imager in your JVC GR-D33 camcorder.
JVC will repair it free of cost, click JVC CCD Imager Advisory for details.
Thanks.

being a fact that JVC camcorders are very trouble prone, it would probably be a better ideal & cheaper to buy a new camcorder.
for your next camcorder purchase, i would stay away from anything made by JVC.

Have similar camcorder and had the same problem.

Try going into the menu and looking at 'A' in the menu, the heading should be 'camera' (on my camera that's the heading), scroll down to the 'gain up' and select 'auto'.

This fixed our camera instantly, hope it helps for you.
