Yes you can. The idea on a laptop is that the battery is only used when there is no other power source (AC power cord). When running on AC power, the laptop will also charge the battery.

It's actually good fashion to remove the battery when only using AC power for long periods of time. This will reduce chargings on the battery from normal power loss (all batteries lose power over time). One thing to do for sure is battery maintenance. This is easily done by simply running the battery dead and then giving it a full charge. This gives the cells in the pack a "stretch" if you want to put it that way. However, it's definitely able to be removed while on AC power.

One good thing about running the battery inside the laptop on AC power is; it acts as a UPS as well. The laptop can switch to the battery if the power fails or whatnot. :)

Not stepping on anyones shoes here, just thought I'd add some information.

remove the battery and unplug your power chord for 1 min. then plug your power chord back in and try to turn it back on.
if it works then plug your battery back in and see if it boots your system up without the power chord.
if everything works fine then go into your control panel and change your power options.

Power does not on my laptop

This could be one of several reasons. The most common reasons that a laptop won't power up are a dead battery, or a non-functioning charging chord. My first step would be to plug the laptop into an outlet in the wall that I know for a fact works. If I am unfamiliar with that specific plug, I will plug something into that outlet that makes noise or light. Such as a lamp, stereo, or phone charger. After you have verified that the wall is giving electricity to the charging chord, the next step is to check the next step in the power chain. That would be where the chord from the wall plugs into the transformer box, that plugs into the laptop itself. So the first step is to check that the outlet that charges the laptop is receiving power. As a side not just because a top plug is getting power does not mean that a bottom plug is as well in my experience. After power received, next check connections. Those connections will include the transformer connection, and the laptop connection. Also you may wish to check for cut, loose, frayed, taped, kinked, or otherwise dangerous looking chords. I also do not recommend using third party Universal laptop chargers bought from the store. I only would use one of these in an emergency situation. I don't trust the power regulation. And on top of that a laptop charger chord is so much cheaper on-line if you buy from somewhere like e-bay. That charger will be laptop model specific. Generally a new charger is about $15-35 on e-bay, and a new battery could be as cheap as $50. Although I would also recommend finding out if your laptop is under warranty. If it is within a year old this is a good possibility. That route takes a lot of patience, but it is usually free.

Hello MY HP laptop 4520s i3, turns off or restarts when i cut power adapter from him .can somebudy halp me for my problem

It's sad to say that your laptop battery pack needs a replacement or a technician to fix a hardware problem in there. How it happens it turn offs when you remove the power plug from it, battery pack are rechargeable so when you are using your power chord it means you are charging it also. Hope it helps you.

How long have you bought your laptop? If it's still under warranty (specially the battery), bring it back to where you purchase it and tell them the detail. You have problems with your battery that's why you cannot fully charge it and it easily drain. The problem with 3 to 4 times pressing the power button is that when you put your power chord, it will take a moment for the battery to charge an enough power to start your laptop, but I believe nothing is wrong with the switch. It's basically a battery matter. Word of advise, if you have the chance to replace your battery, do not overcharge and do not keep the power chord attached to your laptop most of the time. Allow your battery to reach the lowest level once in a while. This will help you maintain a healthy battery.

Power chord problem

(1) Does the machine work with the cord plugged, if so it is the battery or the charger circuit at fault

(2) If it does not work then there is either a break in the cable where it enters the plug which plugs into the back of the laptop or the power supply has failed

My nb100 doesn't turn on.. can you help me?? even if i remove the battery and i just plug the charger chord.. it still won't turn on..

Make sure the light on your ac adaptor is lit when you plug it into the wall outlet so this way you know that the ac adaptor is working properly. If you do get an led to show up then try again, if you still don't get power to the laptop then take out the hard drive and dvd drive from the laptop and try again. If you still don't get power then for sure the motherboard is bad cause that means the voltage is going thru it properly.

Dell 620 Battery Issues

Chances are pretty good that your battery just needs to be replaced. Over time all rechargeable batteries loose their ability to hold a charge. It's also possible, but less likely, that there could be an issue with your AC power adapter or the charging circuitry inside the laptop.

Best bet would be to find a similar laptop with a battery that does charge and switch. If the problem follows the battery then you need a new one.
