What does a blinking hard drive light mean?

A blinking hard drive light indicates hard drive activity. It means that the hard drive is performing certain operations. There are many programs running in the background that need to access the hard drive to read and write data. Whenever this happens, the hard drive indicator light blinks.
Although, if it's blinking continuously and causing the system to slow down, it could also indicate that the system is low on resources such as RAM or hard disk space or it is infected with Malware. In that case, you'll need to check your system configuration. You should run a full antivirus/antispyware scan to make sure the system is clean.

I bought a new hp computer with Windows 7 OS. My hp Officejet 7310 now will not scan. The HP Solution Center that was downloaded with the HP Officejet All-in-One series Windows 7 driver disc (new, just...

A full feature software and driver package for Windows 7 is not available for your product. However, the Windows 7 operating system installed on your computer contains a basic driver solution for your product. With the basic driver, some of the advanced product features are not available. You can print from a software program, and import and view images on a memory card, if your product has a memory card slot. With this basic driver, the buttons on the product do not function and some of the advanced product features are not available. How to Scan a Document in Windows 7 By Greg Harvey The Windows Fax and Scan utility enables you to scan documents and pictures. Before you can scan documents and pictures, you must have a scanner installed on your computer. Your scanner must be listed in the Devices section of the Devices and Printers Control Panel window.

To check to see if your scanner is properly installed, open the Device Stage. Choose Start?Devices and Printers. If Windows doesn't automatically find your scanner, you can manually add it in the Devices and Printers window by clicking the Add a Device button in the toolbar and following the wizard's commands.

  1. Choose Start?All Programs?Windows Fax and Scan.

Windows 7 opens the Windows Fax and Scan window.

  2. Click the Scan button in the Navigation pane, then click the New Scan button on the toolbar.

The New Scan dialog box for your scanner opens.

  3. Use the settings on the right to describe your scan.

By letting the computer know what you're scanning, its color profile, and the type of file you plan to create, you enable Windows Fax and Scan to create the highest quality scan.

  4. Click the Preview button to see what your document will look like.

    Make any last minute changes.

  5. If you're happy with the preview, click the Scan button.

Windows scans the document and presents you with an image of your document.

  6. Click the Save As button and complete the necessary information.

Enter the filename, the type of graphics file you want saved, and then click the Save button.

To automatically forward the document you've just scanned as an attachment to a new fax message, click the Forward as Fax button.

The scan feature in the Windows Fax and Scan utility is set primarily to scan text documents. If you want to scan a photograph or other graphic, you're better off doing that directly within the Windows Live Photo Gallery.

My computer is slow

DEAR
  • Issue:
  • My computer is running slow what steps can I do to fix it?
  • Cause:
  • This issue can be caused by any of the below possibilities.
  • Hard disk drive is short on available disk space.
  • Several software programs have been installed/uninstalled leaving behind bad files and/or confusing the software.
  • Data Corruption.
  • Missing Windows updates / Outdated drivers.
  • Computer is overheating.
  • Corrupt OS.
  • Bad Hardware.
  • Solution:
  • Below are steps for Microsoft Windows users that should help speed up the computer or determine why the computer is running slow.
  • Note: If it is just your Internet that is slow see document CH000986 for reasons why this may be happening.
  • Not enough hard disk drive space
  • Verify that there is at least 200-500MB of free hard disk drive space. This available space allows the computer to have room for the swap file to increase in size as well as room for temporary files.
  • Steps on how to determine how much disk space your computer has can be found on document CH000369.
  • See document CH000528 for additional information about regaining lost hard disk drive space.
  • Hard drive corrupted or fragmented
  • Run Scandisk or something equivalent to help ensure that there is nothing physically wrong with the computer hard disk drive.
  • Run Defrag to help ensure that data is arranged in the best possible order.
  • Background programs
  • Remove or disable any TSRs or programs that automatically start each time the computer boots. See document CHTSR for additional information. If you're wanting to see what programs are running in the background, how much memory they're using, and their CPU usage open Task Manager. Also, if you are running Windows 7, you can run Resmon to find out which programs are taking up a lot of space.
  • If you've got an anti-virus scanner on the computer, spyware protection program, or other security utility make sure it's not running in the background as you're trying to work. Often when these programs begin to scan the computer it can decrease the overall performance of your computer.
  • Hardware conflicts
  • Verify that the Device Manager has no conflicts. If any exist resolve these issues as they could be the cause of your problem. Information about how to get into Device Manager can be found on document CH000833.

  • Computer or processor is overheating

Additional information about your processor temperature and was of determining how hot it is can be found on document CH000687.

  • Or go through the other basic troubleshooting steps.
  • Memory upgrade
  • If you've had your computer for more than one year it's likely you're computer is not meeting the memory requirements for today. We suggest at a minimum the computer have 1GB of memory. Additional information about determining how much RAM is installed in your computer can be found on document CH000149.
  • Erase computer and start over
  • Finally, if none of the above solutions resolve your issues, it is recommended that you either reinstall Windows and/or erase everything and then start over. Additional information about how to do this can be found on document CH000186.
  • Hardware issues
  • If your computer continues to be slow after going over each of the above recommendations it's possible that your computer is experiencing a more serious hardware related issue such as a failing component in the computer. This could be a failing or bad CPU, RAM, Motherboard, or other component.

We have a canon MP610 printer scanner combo, I work in a dentist office and am trying to scan a x-ray. When I do it is'nt picking up the detail very well at all. I think I need to adjust the settings but I...

the only way to get a little more detail out of this printer with x-rays is to INCREASE the DPI resolution. there are no other adjustments that are abailable.
The Scan Settings dialog box opens when you click Specify... on the Scan/Import Documents or images screen.
The Scan Settings dialog box allows you to specify advanced settings for scanning.

Document Type
Select the type of document to be scanned. To scan photographs, select either Color Photo or Black and White Photo. To scan text documents, select either Color Document, Black and White Document, or Text(OCR). To scan magazines, select Magazine(Color).
Document Size
Select the size of document to be scanned.
Auto Detect: Detects document size automatically.
Auto Detect(Multiple Documents): Select this when scanning multiple documents at one time.
Select Stitch-assist to scan the left and right halves of a document separately and combine them back into one image.
Reference See the section below for details.
Scanning images Larger than the Platen (Stitch Assist)
When you select Custom, a dialog box in which you can specify the document size opens. Select a Unit, then enter the Width and Height and click OK.

Important When you select Auto Detect the position or size of the image may not be scanned correctly depending on the document. In such a case, specify the document size, such as A4 or Letter according to the document to be scanned, and align a corner of the document with the corner at the arrow of the platen.
When you select Auto Detect(Multiple Documents) allow 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the platen and the document.
If not, some images may not be scanned at the correct positions and sizes.
You cannot select Auto Detect(Multiple Documents) or Auto Detect when Document Type is Text(OCR).
Scanning Resolution<<<<-------------------------------------------------------------<<<<<<<<<<
Select the resolution at which to scan documents. The following scanning resolution can be specified:
Text(OCR): 300dpi, 400dpi
Others: 75dpi, 100dpi, 150dpi, 200dpi, 300dpi, 400dpi, 600dpi
The higher the resolution (value), the more detail in your image; the lower the resolution (value), the less detail. At high resolution, scanning takes longer and file size becomes larger than usual. See the section below for details on resolution.
this should answer your question , feel free to post here agian if you need more help.
Regards, and thank you for using fixya.
