Check mains fuse, if this is ok it may be an internal fuse, this will be located near the input power cable and is usually a 20mm glass one. ONLY replace with same type and rating.

Lcd tv won't turn on

It is possible that there has been an internal power supply failure. The red indicator merely means power is getting to the TV.

No power getting into unit. Is there a fuse or is the power supply shot?

There is an internal fuse, usually sits near the mains input socket on the internal power supply. It may have just "popped" so replacing it might activate the VCR. However if it has blown severley then there will be a short circuit in the power. If is has not blown then you need to check that you are getting the secondary voltage from the transformer using a multi meter. It is most probable one of the capacitors in the power supply has failed. Take a close look at them to see if there is any swelling on the top of any capacitor, if so replace it.

Panasonic NV L28 does not power on.

the most probable cause of malfunction in your equipmenty is a a electrolitic capacitor in the power source. The capacitor is marked with a value of 1uF 400V in the primary side of the PSU. Replace them and the unit is alive for 20 years more!!!
Greats and good luck!!

Internal battery in Sony VCR.

These units use a large valued capacitor rather than a battery. If memory serves me corectly, on these units the cap is located on the front panel board. It is usually either a 1 farad cap or a 2.2 farad cap at 3V.

Yes!
Remove case lid via two screws at sides, one at rear (power unplugged) lift off, remove front panel -clips are above and below and you should see battery on left side of front pcb when panel removed.

Settings disappear

I suspect the internal backup battery is faulty inside the machine. Sometimes it can be an actual battery soldered to the circuit board otherwise look for a low voltage high capaticance capacitor - for example 3.5v 10F. If you dont know how to check for these things then find a competant technician. Good luck.

The message indicates that an internal problem was detected and that the unit has shut down to prevent damage to the tape. The tape will need to be removed by hand. I can not receommend a repair location without knowing where you are.

Can you post an update with your location?

Thanks,
Dan
