Yes, but you have to use digital cables to hook it up to the source in order for you to get HD.

For video, the best is HDMI or DVI input. The second best is S-video.

For audio, you need to use either digital or optical connections.

Analogue video and audio connections will not provide HD.

Is this t.v. compatible with a PlayStation 3?

That television is only capable of displaying 1080i through the component cables. You should be able to set the settings on your PS3 to 1080i and have it work just fine.

Hitachi 53UDX10B HD Converter

In the USA, "HD Ready" refers to any display that is capable of accepting and displaying a high-definition signal at either 720p, 1080i or 1080p using a component video or digital input, and does not have a built-in HD-capable tuner.

With that said your unit can display HD but does not have a HD-capable turner. You will have to have a converter box to obtain this for over the air channels. If you have any other source that can give you a HD singal (cable some DVD's, blu ray)your unit can display it. Hope this info help's.

Hi-Def?

Yes, it is HD TV ready but you must have a set top box from your cable or dish company that provides a Hi Def signal. The inputs must also be connected with the YRB cable. Only certain channels on my box are HD. The screen is so large that HD isn't nearly as impressive as some of the smaller models but it is still HD. I also have the 53FDX10B.

Hitachi 46F500 will not recognize a Playstation 3

It is my understanding that the 46F500 HD Ready only goes to 1080i and for Blu Ray you need 1080p. There are no ports for this format.

Hitachi 53SDX89BA

I also have a Hitachi 53SDX89BA and I bought it with the same assumption as you: that it's HD ready. The specs in the manual states the following: "Full 1080i HDTV Capatable with Set-Top Box". I beleive this means that it does not include an HD tuner, but that it is capable of handling up to 1080i resolution. Normal (non-HD) resolution on this TV is 480i.

So here's my problem: Until recently, I wasn't using the HD settings on this TV because I don't have a set top box, nor do I subscribe to any HD content from my cable provider. However, I just purchased an XBox 360 along with an XBox 360 HD-DVD player (it's an XBox peripheral that works with the game console). The Xbox asks you to choose the resolution output (480i, 720i or 1080i) to match your TV's HD capabilities. When I select 1080i output and change my TV's settings to receive an HD signal, the picture quality is amazing. However, the video signal seems to get lost ocassionally (i.e. TV picture gets scrambled) but then it comes right back. This does not happen when I select a 480i output on the Xbox...but of course, the picture isn't as crisp and clear as a 1080i picture.

I don't know if this is a problem with the TV or with the Xbox. Has anybody else had this problem??

HD ready?

The TV is just HD ready (doesn't have the HD tuner built-in), you need a separate HD tuner connected to your TV.
