The Samsung optical unit in your laptop no longer replies to the commands coming from the motherboard - hardware failure. You will have to replace it - luckily a DVD burner is cheap and can be bought at every IT shop.

Hi Charles,

The issue is due to the driver corruption. You need not worry, there is a simple solution for this.

Go to device manage --> right click on your CD/DVD drive and then click uninstall and then restart your computer. Do not keep any CDs while you do this. Just try this out.

I have a TSST Corp. CD/DVDW TSH552L. The device will not play cd's or DVD's but will open. There is nothing in the "E" folder when I open it. I don't know if I need drivers or files to make it operational...

Put your Windows product CD/DVD into the drive.
Reboot your computer, and tell it to _first_ try to boot from the CD/DVD drive, to see if it reads the disk.

If not, the drive is dead. Spend $40 to buy a new CD/DVD reader/writer.

Error with a TSST CD/DVDW TS-L532U.

Try uninstalling the device using device manager. Shutdown computer and restart. If the problem persists then you have a faulty DVD/CD drive.
Go to My Computer and right click, select the Device Manager, search for the drive on the right side. Right click and choose Uninstall. then restart. Hope this helps.

Tsst corp cd/dvdw ts-652d ata device not found

your CD-ROM/DVD-ROMs require no drivers   install Nero and see if it works  if not  check the wiring  if it has IDE cables make sure the jumpers are correct for the situation  make sure they are 80 pin cables not 40 pin and that the poer is plugged into the drives  sometimes if Patin-couffin is installed it may fix things

HP uses a method to determine if an optical drive has failed. Basically in a nutshell, if the drive will not read a disc, or if it will not write to one, then the drive is defective.
When the diag tool asked you to insert a "data disk" it's not asking for any particular disk, just one with data on it so that it can test itself.
if it does not recognize the disk in the machine, then try another disk. if the issues persist, the drive is definately failed.
hope this helps!

You're machine is an Acer Aspire, right? I used to see this problem alot with those, where I knew the Optical drive worked, but the computer wouldn't recognize it, or wouldn't recognize the drivers. It was a problem with the Registry entry for the device's upper and lower buffers. Deleting that entry usually fixed the problem, but I don't recommend people unfamilar with system registries to do this. Take it to a tech and tell him what's going on. As I've only seen this with acers, if you're not using an Acer Aspire, I can only suggest having a tech look at it, or buying a new optical drive.
