Question about Philips 50P8341 50" Rear Projection Television
Ihave tried to use the manual convergence featureson the remote without anysucess. Is there someother way tofix aconvergence problem? Do I need to change the board or get a bigger hammer?
Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.
Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
Here is a quick test....
Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directiConvergence on a Philips 51pw9303 rear projection - 2c07611.pngnvergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

A bigger hammer might make you feel better in the short term, but rweally won't fix the problem:)
On the other hand, if you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Open up the back and locate hte large heatsink. Attached to that should be 2 large black IC packs. First try resoldering the pins on those ICs. If that fails to resolve your problem, replace the ICs. They should be marked STKxxx.
Keep us posted.
