Question about Kodak Carousel 4600 Slide Projector

1 Answer

Slide projector won't stop auto-advancing

My company's otherwise pristine Kodak Carousel 4600 won't stop automatically advancing, which makes for very, very fast slide shows. :-)

I pulled the cover off and checked out the forward and reverse switches -- they look fine, and disconnecting one at a time didn't make a change.

I also checked for loose connections, and moved wires around looking for a short but didn't find one.

Using the wired remote control didn't work either.

My guess is that it's the circuit board. Is that others' experience? Know of a cheap source for a new board if that's the consensus of the problem? Thanks in advance.

-I spent ages trying to find a Kodak source for advice. My Ektapro is a 1500, which I bought in2000 as a retirement present to myself. It has been great but recentlly went into2 frames per sec mode. I feared taking it apart in case it was designed to be difficult to reassemble--now I will do that. --mike@michaelhevans.co.uk

The problem is "continuous cycle", a fairly simple adjustment to the cycle switch lever. Remove the lamp module & unplug the projector. Turn it upside down. Remove the 6 T-15 TORX screws from the bottom cover. The lever is a "J" shaped wire near the center of the projector. Refer to the attached diagram for help locating. You will have to carefully(!) bend the wire down - a very little at a time. After each bend, plug the projector in and cycle it a few times. If it continues to cycle, shut it off - unplug it - and bend a little more (too much is bad: the wire can break or "trap" the cycle mechanism. You want to get it in the center of the pad, as the picture illustrates. Good Luck !!

My kodak carousel auto focus 760 carousel does not move but the projector makes a noise when I press the buttons how can I get it to move

Your Carousel 760 Slide Projector is about 45 years old. One of the problems I have seen as Carousel Slide Projectors age is that the plastic parts in the projector get brittle and break. Given your description of the observed condition is that probably either the gear on the focus motor shaft or the gear it interfaces with (or both) that is broken. Given the age of the machine, parts will be tough to locate. Try: www.micro-tools.com
for the best chance to locate those parts. Good Luck !! Jim

How do I properly install the carousel? It's not advancing I think it's not on properly.

It is a while since I have handled one, but as I remember, you have to line up the number 1 slide position with the slot in the projector and then it clips into place with a little pressure.

The advance and reverse button is frozen. the auto focus is also frozen my kodak carousel custom 840H projector is 35 years old. should I just buy new?

You may have trouble buying new. Kodak stopped manufacturing slide projectors in 2004. There are qualified repair dealers that you can send your projector to & get it fixed. What you describe is a pretty common problem with the Carousel Custom line as they age...

Problems with using a 140 carousel on a Kodak 4600

There is nothing wrong with your slide trays. Your projector needs an adjustment to the cycle contact assembly. The constant cycle mode is a dead-giveaway. You need to take the projector to an Authorized Repair Dealer for this adjustment. Should be relatively quick - - it takes longer to get the case apart than to make the repair!

My slide projector is advancing the carousel non-stop and I can't control it. What's the problem?

either the switch terminals are making a constant contact, or the advance solenoid is shorted on. you'll have to take the control panel apart to see if the switch pieces are touching. if not, you'll have to either find the short or take it in for repair.

Sometimes stop advancing. sometimes keep advancing 5 to 8 slides.

the mechanism needs cleaning. it is an almost purely mechanical device and needs greasing. the old grease gets hot and dusty and starts to get sticky. when this happens, the moving parts tend not to move. the mechanism needs to come out for a cleaning and regreasing.

Need to make it advance automatically

Sure! Not only did Kodak sell an external automatic timer that plugs into the remote socket, a number of other companies had them as well. If you can't find one searching online for "Kodak slide projector plug-in timer", try: www.micro-tools.com Good Luck !

Kodak Carousel 760H wont advance or reverse

You have jammed the slide change mechanism. Turn the projector off. Remove the tray using the emergency release slot in the center hub of the projector. Turn the projector on and cycle it a few times in reverse, then in forward. That usually clears a mechanism jam.
